Hogwarts Legacy Players Have Clocked Over 700 Million Hours

The Wizarding World opens its doors to Switch owners next week.

David Zaslav, WB Games’ President and CEO, has revealed that Hogwarts Legacy players have amassed over 700 million hours in playtime. The information comes from the company’s Q3 2023 Earnings Conference Call which took place earlier this week on November 8.

Our Harry Potter fans have immersed themselves in Hogwarts Legacy, playing more than 700 million hours to date. That engagement helps not only our games business, but also helps build and revitalize the entire Harry Potter franchise and we know our fans want even more.”

Zaslav commented on how WB, as both a developer and publisher, controls quality and reaps the full economic benefits of the games it produces. With regards to the game, Zaslav stated, “In 2023 we’ve released two of the industry’s top 10 console games, including the number one game released this year, Hogwarts Legacy.”

Players entered the Wizarding World in droves earlier this year when Hogwarts opened its doors to players in February. It broke sales and player count records in the first month, having sold over 12 million copies just two weeks after its launch. Moreover, it even had one of Steam’s biggest Early Access launches, peaking at a little over 489,000 players.

Around its launch, the game was subject to controversy due to author J.K. Rowling’s views. A sizeable group of people called for its boycott to prevent the author from receiving royalties. However, this movement backfired as the game not only shattered the barricades but even became the most-viewed single-player video game on Twitch with 1,280,000 concurrent viewers.

WB’s AAA take on the franchise was released on February 10, 2023, for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. It later arrived on last-gen consoles with a Switch port arriving next week.
