Hogwarts Legacy Gets New Arachnophobia Mode As The Game Crosses $1 Billion Sales

Avalanche Software's latest venture is now WB's biggest video game launch of all time.

Story Highlights

  • Hogwarts Legacy has brought in monumental sales figures for publisher Warner Bros. Games, crossing over $1 billion in retail sales. The game has become WB’s largest all-time release.
  • In other news, the title has received a new patch on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC as well, now boasting a new Arachnophobia Mode that seemingly takes out all spiders from Hogwarts Legacy.
  • A host of new changes have been made as well in the wake of the new patch, with the majority of them revolving around bug fixes, performance optimizations, and other enhancements.

Although Hogwarts Legacy did get off to a rocky start on the occasion of its release, concerning controversial issues, PC port performance pangs, and whatnot, it’s turned out to become Warner Bros. Games’ biggest launch of all time. According to WB’s earnings press release for 2023’s first quarter, the game has also surpassed more than $1 billion in sales while rolling out about $15 million copies year-to-date.

Additionally, the developers have released another major patch for the title, with the last one coming out on March 8 two months back. The new update introduces a novel feature of Arachnophobia Mode for those who are a bit too afraid to get in contact with those daddy longlegs in-game. Among the new changes are performance improvements, bug fixes, and crash resolutions for Hogwarts Legacy.

The complete patch notes have been laid out by WB on a separate web handle, should you choose to explore them further. The gist of it is that since the new patch is an exhaustive one, an array of various sections have been improved upon. Error codes such as HL-1894, HL-974, and HL-2953 have been addressed, not to mention the resolution of “multiple potential crashes” as well. In total, more than 500 fixes have been made to the game.

It’s worth noting that this Hogwarts Legacy patch has been released for all major platforms that the title is available on, including PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. The patch notes differ for each system, depending on the requirement of the fixes pushed out by the developers on the relevant platform. For instance, here are the full performance-centric patch notes for the open-world action adventure’s PlayStation 5 version.

  • UDS optimizations
  • Added PS5 Controller Firmware out of date popup for DualShock on PC Platforms
  • Updated a valid CachedSaveGameListInfo structure to help avoid PS5 from being overburdened and crashing.
  • Resolved transferring save data from PS4 to PS5 causing a suspended and unresponsive screen to appear for more than 30 seconds.

Speaking of systems, Hogwarts Legacy was also released for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 today, nearly three months after its initial launch on other platforms. This leaves us with the only major platform still being left out from a Hogwarts Legacy port—the Nintendo Switch—which will get treated to it come July 25. Pre-orders are live on various marketplaces, including Amazon.

Back when the Harry Potter-inspired action adventure was released on February 10, 2023, it didn’t take the title long to amass a concurrent peak player count of over 800,000 players on launch day. From there, a string of successes followed its way, selling 256% more than WB’s expectations and selling over 100,000 copies in Japan for the PlayStation 5

Furthermore, it’s been reported earlier that gamers have played over 406 million hours of Hogwarts Legacy. Throughout March, the title went on to retain its sales top spot in the UK and France, until the Resident Evil 4 remake jumped in on the fun and overtook the magic-oriented AAA release on that front. With that being said, Avalanche Software’s latest venture still remained the most played game on the Steam Deck across March.

Hogwarts Legacy is out now for the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
