Genshin Impact is one of the most played gacha games, and the hype of this game is increasing as the updates are coming out. The game has been making highlights due to its unique Lore, Characters, and much more. In the latest 3.5 version, we have seen the re-run of Hu Tao and Yelan, two of the best characters in the game, so we considered making a hu tao weapon tier list. Hu Tao might still be considered the Meta of Genshin Impact, but after the introduction of Dendro, a new reaction known as Hyperbloom might take the throne.
Still, Hu Tao is undoubtedly the best Pyro DPS in the game. Yoimiya is also a great DPS, and her playstyle is great, but Hu Tao takes the throne damage-wise. That being said, F2P Hu Tao might be a little complicated for beginners, so getting her C1 is great. As Hu Tao got a re-run, many new players wished for her, so we have drafted this Hu Tao Weapon Tier List for those players. We will be ranking every weapon that is suitable for Hu Tao from S-D Tier. So, let’s get started right away with Hu Tao Weapon Tier List.
- There are 14 Polearms you can use with Hu Tao.
- The Staff of Homa is the best weapon for Hu Tao as its main stat, and passive is mainly built for her.
- Hu Tao’s main damage comes from her HP, and her signature weapon’s passive complement it very well.
- If you have an R5 Dragon’s Bane, use it instead of The Skyward Spine or The Staff of Sacred Sands. Do remember to keep your Crit Ratio maintained.
- The Primordial Jade Winged Spear is the second-best weapon for Hu Tao.
- You will have to stack the passive to use the Jade Spear for a Nuke.
- The Staff of Sacred Sands is a good choice as it will give Crit Rate, and the passive will give you an ATK bonus based on your EM.
- The Blackcliff Pole is better than the Deathmatch, so don’t waste your money on this weapon.
- The Crescent Pike is the best option to go for if you want more physical DMG, as it will give you a PHYS DMG bonus.
- The Black tassel is not the best choice, but it will give you more HP, which will be helpful.
- The White Tassel is a good choice in 3-star weapons as it will give you more Crit rate and increase your Normal ATK DMG.
- The Halberd is the worst weapon for Hu Tao as it is the most common weapon in the game.
Hu Tao Weapon Tier List Table
Tier | Weapon | Rarity |
---|---|---|
S | The Staff of Homa, The Primordial Jade Winged Spear, The Staff of Sacred Sands, The Skyward Spine | 5 Star |
A | The Dragon’s Bane, The Prototype Starglitter, The Blackcliff Pole, The Crescent Pike | 4 Star |
B | The Deathmatch, The Favonious Lance, The Catch | 4 Star |
C | The White Tassel, The Black Tassel | 3 Star |
D | The Halberd | 3 Star |
S Tier
Tier | Weapon | Rarity |
---|---|---|
S | The Staff of Homa, The Primordial Jade Winged Spear, The Staff of Sacred Sands, The Skyward Spine | 5 Stars |
S Tier consists of the best weapons for Hu Tao, so using them will give a huge boost in attacks of Hu Tao. However, obtaining S Tier weapons is extremely difficult as it all will depend on your luck and how much grinding you will do as a F2P. If you are not a F2P, it still won’t be easy, as Welkin Moon and Battle Pass won’t be enough. If you are a Whale, then it will surely be easy for you to get them.
The Staff of Homa

The Staff of Homa is Hu Tao’s signature weapon, meaning this weapon is best suited for her as it is designed just for her. The staff of Homa is undoubtedly one of the best Polearm in Genshin Impact, which you can use on many characters. Version 3.5 brought perhaps the best weapon banner, as it has Aqua Simulacra and Staff of Homa, two of the best weapons in the game.
Still, it all will depend on your luck if you get the weapon or not, but getting it would surely give a tremendous boost to your Hu Tao.
Main Stat | The main stat of the Staff of Homa is Crit Damage which is extremely good. Ascending Hu Tao gives her Crit DMG, and her signature weapon also gives her Crit DMG, so you just have to get some good Crit Rate artifacts. By upgrading the weapon to its highest, you will get 808 ATK and 66.2 Crit DMG. |
Passive | The Staff of Homa's passive increases by 20% HP and gives an additional attack bonus of 0.8% of the wielder's max HP. Moreover, when the character's Max HP is lower than 50%, the bonus will be increased by an additional 1% of the Max HP. |
How to Get | Unfortunately, you can only get this weapon on the weapon banner, which comes after a while. There is no exact date on when Hu Tao's weapon banner will be released, so you will have to wait for official news from Hoyoverse. We strongly recommend pulling for her weapon, as it will take Hu Tao to the next level. |
Refinement | We don't recommend F2P players go for refinements as it will not be worth it. Don't get us wrong, the refinements are worth it in the long run, but you should save your Primos for other characters. On the other hand, those who can afford her Refinements and want to become a Hu Tao main can consider refining the weapon. |
The Primordial Jade Winged Spear

The Primordial Jade Winged Spear is one of the greatest weapons in Genshin Impact, as it is Xiao’s signature weapon. Of course, it works the best on Xiao, but as Hu Tao’s weapon can be used on different characters, Xiao’s weapon can be used on different characters too. So, if you have this weapon, then make sure to give it to your Hu Tao. As the weapon is in S-tier, it won’t be easy to obtain, like The Staff of Homa.
Main Stat | The Primordial Jade Winged Spear's main stat is Crit Rate, which can be increased up to 22.4%, which is not that bad. If the Crit Rate was higher, then the weapon would have been broken. Moreover, the highest ATK of this weapon is 674. |
Passive | Jade Spear's passive is the most interesting thing about this weapon, as, on hit, the character's ATK is increased by 3.2% for 6s. This effect will occur every 0.3s, and the max stacks are 7. Meaning with each hit, you will increase the 22.4% ATK DMG with max stacks. That's not it; if you have managed to attain the max stacks, then the DMG dealt will increase by 12%. So, this weapon is a great choice to use with Hu Tao. |
How to Get | You can get this weapon when Xiao gets a re-run or via a standard banner. You have to get Super Lucky to get this weapon from the Standard Banner, as there are many other 5 stars available in it. |
Refinement | Refining the weapon would give a tremendous boost to the passive, but F2P players shouldn't even think of doing that. If you have an insane amount of luck, then you might get 2 weapons in one multi, but the chance of that happening is almost 0 in the standard banner and even in its official weapon banner. |
The Staff of Sacred Sands

The Staff of Sacred Sands is Cyno’s signature weapon which is pretty good and can be used on Hu Tao. We don’t recommend pulling for this weapon just for Hu Tao. If you already have it by any chance, then it is an available option that you can consider.
Main Stat | The main stat of this polearm is Crit Rate. On the max level, you will get a 44.1% Crit Rate and 542 Base ATK, which will surely help Hu Tao to do good DMG. |
Passive | The character will gain 52% of their EM as an ATK bonus. Moreover, when an Elemental Skill hits the enemy, an effect will be gained that will last for 10s. The effect will give 28% of the character’s EM as ATK Bonus, and it can be stacked 3 times. The passive isn’t exactly what you would want on a normal Hu Tao build, so if you have this weapon, you will have to build your Hu Tao accordingly. |
How to Get | The Staff of Sacred Sands can only be claimed by pulling on Cyno’s weapon banner, which is coming in the version 3.6 update. We don’t recommend wasting your wishes on that banner, but if you can’t get Homa, you can try your luck. |
Refinement | If you are a Cyno main, then refining the weapon can be taken into consideration, but you shouldn’t think of refining it if you are a Hu Tao main. Except pull for The Staff of Homa. |
The Skyward Spine

The Skyward Spine is a good five-star weapon, but it really doesn’t compliment Hu Tao that much. Still, it is an S-tier because of its passive. Most players use Skyward Spine with Xiangling, as it is an excellent match for her. If you have neither of the above weapons, then this weapon is the best choice for you, so don’t hesitate to use it.
Main Stat | The main stat of the Skyward Spine is Energy Recharge which would work just fine on Hu Tao. You can get 36.8% ER at the maximum level and an ATK of 674. The weapon could have been way better if it had any Crit as a main stat. |
Passive | Skyward Spine's Passive is actually great. It increases Crit Rate by 9% and the normal ATK Speed by 12%. Moreover, every 2 seconds on normal or charged attacks, there will be a 50% chance to trigger a vacuum blade that will have 40% of ATK as DMG in a small AOE. |
How to Get | The weapon can only be obtained via a standard banner. So you will have to get insanely lucky to get this, as there are many 5 stars in the standard banner. However, this isn't the best weapon in the standard banner. |
Refinement | If you have more copies of Skyward Spine, then refining it is a good choice, as it will give a boost to the passive, but refining a weapon is not an ideal thing to do. Instead, save the copy and give it to the other character. |
A-Tier
Tier | Weapon | Rarity |
A | The Dragon’s Bane, The Prototype Starglitter, The Blackcliff Pole, The Crescent Pike | 4 Stars |
A Tier Weapons that we will discuss in our Hu tao weapon tier list will work great on Hu tao, so if you don’t have any weapon from S Tier, then these weapons will undoubtedly be your best choice. Although, depending on your playstyle, one weapon in A-tier might be better than the Skyward Spine, so let’s get into it right away.
The Dragon’s Bane

Dragon’s Bane is one of the best 4-star weapons polearms in the game, and it really compliments Hu Tao. It is not the best, but it is fairly easy to obtain as compared to the 5-star weapons. So, if you have this weapon, using it would be beneficial for your Hu Tao. Also, according to this subreddit, Dragon’s Bane is a great Hu Tao weapon, so you can use it on her.
Main Stat | The main stat is the only thing that is not worth talking about this weapon as it is EM, but if you want to use Hu Tao in a Vaporize team, then the damage could increase. On the max level, you will have 221 EM and 454 ATK. |
Passive | The passive of Dragon’s Bane is great as it will boost to ATK when the opponent is affected by either Hydro or Pyro. Hu Tao’s main damage comes from her skill, and she infuses her weapon in Pyro so the DMG will be decreased. |
How to Get | The weapon is easy to obtain but not that much easy. You can pull for this weapon while wishing for The Staff of Homa, as you might get its copies if you don’t get the desired weapon which is Homa, of course. If it was easier to get this weapon, it would have been easily in our S-Tier of Hu Tao weapon Tier List. |
Refinement | The refinements on this weapon are worth it, as you can wish for Staff of Homa while getting copies of it. |
The Prototype Starglitter

Prototype Starglitter is a forgeable weapon in Genshin Impact which is why it is being discussed in the A-Tier of Hu Tao weapon tier list. This isn’t anyone’s signature weapon, but it can work really well on Hu Tao as it gives a boost to her attacks.
Main Stat | The main stat of this weapon is Energy Recharge, so if you are going to use this, you will have to invest much more in your artifacts; otherwise, you won’t see Hu Tao doing big numbers. At maxing the weapon, you will get 45.9% ER and 510 ATK. |
Passive | The passive of this weapon is great as it will activate when you use Elemental Skill. After using the skill DMG of normal and charge, ATK will increase by 8% for 12s. Moreover, this effect can be stacked only twice. |
How to Get | You won’t have to do any special quest for this. The weapon will already be unlocked, so you will just have to collect the materials from forging it. |
Refinement | Refining Prototype Starglitter will be time-consuming, but it won’t be much difficult as it will be worth it if you don’t have a better weapon. |
The Blackcliff Pole

The Blackcliff Pole is easy to get and will work great with Hu Tao. You should get this weapon if you don’t have a good Crit DMG (main stat) artifact. If you have over 200 Crit DMG on Hu Tao with the weapon, then you should focus on Crit Rate or other things.
Main Stat | The main stat of this weapon is Crit DMG which is really good if you don’t have enough Crit DMG for Hu Tao. You will get 55.1% Crit DMG and 510 ATK on maxing this weapon. |
Passive | The passive of this weapon will activate after you have defeated an enemy. By doing so, Hu Tao’s ATK will be increased by 12% for the 30s, and it can only be staked 3 times. You should remember that this weapon’s passive is not great for single opponents. |
How to Get | You can buy this weapon from Paimon’s Bargain for 24 Masterless Starglitter. You can get Masterless Starglitter by wishing on a character or weapon banner. |
Refinement | We recommend not refining it as you can use Masterless Starglitter for other things, so refining it won’t really be worth it. |
The Crescent Pike

Crescent Pike is another forgeable weapon in Genshin Impact which is great for free-to-play players. You can select either the Prototype Starglitter or The Crescent Pike, as they both are good choices.
Main Stat | The main stat of this weapon is the Physical DMG Bonus, which Hu Tao doesn’t really require, but it’s alright. The weapon will provide you with a 34.5% Physical DMG Bonus and 565 ATK on max level. |
Passive | The passive of the Crescent Pike is why it is placed in the A Tier of Hu Tao weapon tier list; otherwise, it would have been in B Tier. Whenever you pick an Elemental Orb or Particle, normal and charge attacks will get a 20% extra DMG for 5 secs. |
How to Get | The weapon is easy to get as it can be forged by the Blacksmith in the game. All you need to do is to collect the required materials. |
Refinement | Refining this weapon would be time-consuming, but if you don’t find a better weapon in between, then you won’t have a choice. |
B Tier
Tier | Weapon | Rarity |
B | The Deathmatch, The Favonious Lance, The Catch | 4 Stars |
B-Tier weapons aren’t that great, but you will be able to main Hu Tao with them, too, for the time being. If you don’t have any weapon from the higher tier, your main priority should be to get a better weapon for Hu Tao.
The Deathmatch

Deathmatch is one of the best 4-star polearms, but it is the B Tier of Hu Tao weapon tier list because obtaining it would cost you some money. Not everyone would want to spend money on a gacha game, and this weapon can only be obtained from the Battle Pass. If by any chance you have this weapon, then you should give it to Hu Tao.
Main Stat | The main stat of this weapon is the Crit Rate which can be increased up to 36.8%. Moreover, the max level will provide you with 454 ATK. |
Passive | If there are fewer than 2 opponents nearby, the ATK will be increased by 24%. If there are at least 2 opponents nearby, ATK and DEF will be increased by 16%. |
How to Get | To get this weapon, you will have to buy the Battle Pass, which will provide you with many other rewards too. |
Refinement | Refining Deathmatch is not worth it. You will have to buy the Battle Pass 4 more times to refine it completely, which would be a complete waste of money. The ideal thing is to wait, as eventually, you will get a better weapon. |
The Favonius Lance

Favonius Lance is not a great weapon, but if you are short on Energy Recharge, then this weapon might be the one you are looking for. Just because a weapon has Favonius in its name doesn’t mean it will be good, so eventually, you will have to find a better weapon.
Main Stat | The main stat of Favonius Lance is Energy Recharge. It will give you 30.6% more Energy Recharge and 565 ATK on the max level. |
Passive | The Passive of this weapon is also just alright as on Crit, it will have a 60% chance of generating 6 energy particles for the character, and it will occur after every 12s. |
How to Get | You can get this weapon randomly just by wishing on the available banners. You can get it from all of the banners available at the moment, but you won’t really get many copies. |
Refinement | Refining this weapon won’t do much. If you have copies, then you can refine the weapon. Otherwise, you shouldn’t even consider it. |
The Catch

The Catch is one of the best F2P weapons for Raiden Shogun, but you can also use it on Hu Tao if you don’t have any good weapons. Getting this weapon is not easy, as you will have to fish for hours. Still, if you want to see big numbers with Hu Tao’s Ult, this weapon might help.
Main Stat | The main stat of this weapon is Energy Recharge. You can get 45.9% of ER and 510 ATK on the max level. |
Passive | The passive of The Catch will increase Elemental Burt’s DMG by 16%, and the Crit Rate will also be increased by 6% (only exclusive to burst). |
How to Get | Gettin The Cath is easy, but it is extremely time-consuming. We recommend getting it as it could be useful for other characters too. You will have to fish different fishes to get the weapon from a Fisherman named Kujirai Momiji in Inazuma. |
Refinement | If you have successfully obtained the weapon, then the next thing to do is to refine it by catching more fish. You will get the refinements from the same guy. Keep in mind that you will have to catch different fish for refinement. |
C Tier
Tier | Weapons | Rarity |
C | The White Tassel, The Black Tassel | 3 Stars |
C Tier weapons are not the worst, but they will be easily available in the game and won’t b much useful to you. So, you must change your weapon asap if you don’t have any from a higher tier.
The White Tassel

White Tassel is one of the simplest weapons to obtain in the game. You can find it just by opening chests. You won’t have to do something special to obtain it. Moreover, it will go just fine with Hu Tao for the time being. So, you can use it as long as you don’t get a better weapon.
Main Stat | The main stat of White Tassel is Crit Rate. On the max level, it will give a 23.4% Crit Rate and 401 ATK to Hu Tao, which isn’t impressive at all. But if you are a complete beginner, then it’s alright. |
Passive | The passive of this weapon is what makes it a good 3-star weapon as it increases 24% Normal ATK DMG. |
How to Get | You can get the White Tassel by just opening chests or doing wishes in the game. |
Refinement | Refining the weapon is not difficult at all, and you will surely have more copies, so it won’t hurt to refine it. |
The Black Tassel

The Black Tassel can also be easily obtained from the wishes, and you might get the weapon in one multi. If you just got hu tao, you must have the weapon by wishing for her. If you are planning to use Hu Tao as a main DPS from the start, then this weapon will do just fine for the starters. However, eventually, you will have to get a better one.
Main Stat | The main stat of this is HP which is quite good for Hu Tao as her attacks are based on her overall HP. On a max level, you will get 46.9% HP and 354 ATK. |
Passive | The passive of this weapon is not even worth talking about as it increased DMG against only slimes by 40%. If there is a domain that consists of many slimes, then you will be able to clear it quickly. |
How to Get | Getting this weapon isn’t difficult, as you will get it easily from wishing on any type of banner. |
Refinement | If you have copies of this weapon, then refining it won’t be an issue, but it won’t really do much. |
D Tier
Tier | Weapons | Rarity |
D | The Halberd | 3 Star |
D Tier weapons are the worst type of weapon in Genhsin Impact, which just aren’t worth it. If you, by any chance, don’t have any weapons from S-C Tier, then get them as soon as you can. Fortunately, our well-organized Hu Tao weapon tier list contains only one weapon in D Tier, so let’s see which one it is.
The Halberd

The halberd is perhaps the easiest 3-star weapon to obtain, as you will get it from so many chests all around the Teyvat. So you surely will have at least 2 or 3 in your inventory. You can use it on Hu Tao for the time being but make sure to replace it as soon as possible.
Main Stat | The main stat of this weapon is ATK. On the max level, it will give a 23.4% boost in ATK and 448 in Base Attack. So, it will work just fine on a Hu Tao with good artifacts. |
Passive | The passive of Halberd is that normal attacks will deal 160% ATK as DMG every 10s. |
How to Get | Getting this weapon will be easy as you will find it all over the Teyvat. |
Refinement | Refining the weapon won’t be an issue here as you will get enough copies, so do refine it. |
Hu Tao Weapon Tier List Ranking Criteria
We have picked almost every polearm and ranked them from S-D Tier just for Hu Tao. We have created the Hu Tao weapon tier list with nothing but facts, and as we have played the game and main Hu Tao, the tier list consists of real-time experience. We have been playing the game for quite a long time now, and as Hu Tao just got her re-run, we decided to make a tier list for her weapons so those who pulled for Hu Tao would take advantage of it.
The Hu Tao weapon tier list isn’t solely based on our experience. Of course, we have tested the weapons ourselves, but we also took the insights of pro players into account.
Conclusion
That’s everything you would want to know about the best weapons for Hu tao. Hu Tao is a great Pyro DPS, and many Genshin players main her, but without a good one, you won’t be able to bring out her full potential. Your priority should be to get the best Crimson Witch artifacts for her and a great weapon. If you want to know more about artifacts in Genshin Impact, then do check out our best artifacts guide.
If Hu Tao is your favorite character and you want to main her, then we suggest pulling for her weapon, too, don’t go for fate points if you are a free-to-play player. With the S-Tier weapons, you will be able to get the full out of Hu Tao, but you will have to master dash canceling. If you don’t like dash canceling, then we suggest getting her Constellation Number One, as her charged attacks won’t consume stamina at all.
