Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown Flies Past 5 Million Sales Milestone

Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown continues its selling spree despite being released nearly half a decade ago. Bandai Namco has recently announced on Twitter that the game has surpassed 5 million sales. The announcement has caused a surge of excitement in the community as fans celebrate the occasion. It has been the best-selling game in the franchise for about two years, with Ace Combat 4 being the second-best at 2.5 million copies sold.

The devs have shared a mesmerizing wallpaper for free to commemorate the event as a gift to loyal fans of the franchise. It can be downloaded in a plethora of different resolutions by anyone who visits the official site. 

The timeline for the game’s sales has remained promising for the devs since the start. Ace Combat 7 initially sold 2.5 million units in a little over two years after its release in early 2019. However, it did not take long for the entry to take flight towards the 4 million sales. Bandai Namco revealed the staggering 4 million milestone back in November 2022, suggesting that the entry sold a whole new million in just a year despite its growing age.

While most of the fans are busy commemorating the new sales milestone, some of us are also wondering about the next entry in the franchise. Rumors of Ace Combat 8 have long floated in the ecosystem, but the devs have also recently hinted at it.

The tease came in the form of an announcement by Bandai Namco. It sought employees a few months ago to work on a brand new iteration of the Ace Combat franchise in a brand new studio. The development studio dubbed Bandai Namco Aces was created and is currently helming the project in full force. The rumors suggest that it is in development in the Unreal Engine 5. 

Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown is best described as an arcade air combat simulation venture that is arguably still unmatched in the gaming ecosystem after four years of triumphant sales. The amount of positive reception on Steam and other platforms greatly overshadows any criticism of the title. You can also get to experience it in the PlayStation VR headset to be immersed in a way rarely seen in the world of gaming.

It came out with a bang on January 18, 2019, for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles, followed by a release for PC on February 1, 2019. Unfortunately, there were no next-gen launches for both consoles.
