Don’t Nod, the popular developer behind the likes of Vampyr and the Life is Strange franchise, is currently working on a brand-new action RPG in the name of Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden. The title in question is a bit different from what the France-based dev’s usual forte, but it has still measured up to become a fairly promising title that’s coming out this year.
On that front, a new blog post expands on what Ghosts of New Eden brings to the table in terms of side quests, the plot, and the overall premise. Taking to Xbox Wire, the official news portal for all things Xbox, the Lead Narrative Designer and Lead Level Designer at Don’t Nod have exemplified a “common form of quest” that players will run into when playing, termed the haunting cases.
Our game universe is set in the world of the 17th century as we know it, with one major difference: the world is plagued with curses and ghost hauntings. During a Haunting Case, you will find ghosts that are still attached to the world of the living, which you as a Banisher, will be asked to investigate and solve. Haunting Cases serve as side quests in our game,” say the Don’t Nod developers.
In addition, the devs explain that players will be faced with three choices every time they come face to face with a case’s conclusion. Should you choose to release, banish, or blame the part(ies) involved, that’s totally up to you, but beware that your choices will bear consequences for remnant people and both Red and Antea as well. That way, the flow of the story is to be controlled by your actions.
In the game you’ll encounter characters with deep secrets and concealed truth. For instance, you’ll uncover the story of an anxious wife awaiting her husband’s return, only to later realize that she had taken his life to escape an abusive marriage. As Banishers, a crucial choice awaits. Wil you blame her, seeking retribution for murder? Or will you banish the soul of her departed, abusive and revengeful husband?” the Lead Designers interrogate.
In other news, we also know that Ghosts of New Eden will feature real-time character switching, allowing you to seamlessly combine the combat styles of Red and Antea and pull off devastating combos. Furthermore, the narrative focus looks pretty alluring in the game, where Red is found perplexed between his Banisher oath and the love of his life.
Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden will be released on February 13, 2024, just in time for Valentine’s Day, for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Pre-orders for the title are live and constitute multiple purchasable editions.
