I don’t know about you, but I’m definitely keeping an eye out for Don’t Nod’s upcoming third-person RPG that looks to be focusing heavily on the story aspect. Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden places two characters in central focus—Red and Antea—with both of them being each other’s romantic partners. A new trailer released by publisher Focus Entertainment casts a lens on the decisions you’ll be making in-game and their subsequent consequences.
The 1-minute-long footage has told me all that I need to know about the narrative direction of this game, and let me tell you, it’s going to be pretty exhilarating. From the looks of it, the female protagonist in Ghosts of New Eden is dead, and it’s now up to Red to either bring her back to life or let her peacefully carry on to the life hereafter. That now, will boil down to your thought process and subsequent actions.
It’s apparent that taking away and sacrificing lives in the name of Antea at the hands of Red gets her closer to resurrection but at the expense of both of their moral values. However, sparing people and letting them tread peacefully means Antea will get to meet the same fate. From the perspective of someone who deeply cherishes their significant other, the choice can be easy to make here, but there’s another element in the mix that makes things even more difficult.

Red is a Banisher who has sworn an oath to safeguard the living from the dead, thus the name “banisher.” Rescuing Antea from her current state would mean shattering that oath, so it’s genuinely enticing to see how Ghosts of New Eden’s plot goes on to unfold. The narrative’s dynamic is surprisingly perplexing and is likely to keep players fairly engaged until the storyline’s culmination, that’s for sure.
Therefore, the title of the trailer is pretty clear to us in the respect that the decisions players make are going to have actual consequences in-game, and not just shuffle their way back to the pre-determined canon in a gimmicky manner. Oh, and to speak of the game’s combat, which you can gauge in another trailer here, Ghosts of New Eden’s Creative Director revealed in an interview that the gameplay draws inspiration from the God of War reboot, so that’s a plus.
Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden was planned to be released on November 7 last year, but the developer decided to push the game back to a February 13 release for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
