Modders Somehow Got Bloodborne To Run At 60 FPS On PlayStation 5

Keep in mind, however, a hacked PS5 was needed for this.

Story Highlights

  • Coder Illusion has completed the task of running Bloodborne at 60 FPS on PlayStation 5.
  • The modder transferred the 60 FPS patch built by Lance McDonald to his console and made the FromSoftware title run smoothly on the PS5.

Through a mix of hacking and mods, Twitter user Illusion has achieved the impossible, getting Bloodborne to run on a PlayStation 5 at 60 FPS. By using the patch created by Lance McDonald and transferring it to his hacked PS5, the coder was able to make the FromSoftware title run seamlessly at 60 FPS. Hence, if you can’t wait for Sony to release the native version of the game on PS5, you can use this alternative method.

Ever since the console’s release, the modding community has been trying their best to run Bloodborne at 60 FPS on the PlayStation 5. A big contributor in overcoming this challenge has been Lance McDonald, who created a 60 FPS patch for the action RPG a few years back. This mod allowed him to play the game at 60 FPS on his PlayStation 4 Pro, which was a big jump from the locked 30 FPS Bloodborne normally runs on.

To achieve this, he used the code from Dark Souls III and made the 2014 title run smoothly at 60 FPS. Back then, there was hope that seeing this fantastic result FromSoftware would release a new frame rate patch for the game ahead of PlayStation 5’s release. However, as we all know, there has been no progress on that front and even though you can play Bloodborne on PS5, it is still locked at 30 FPS.

Hence, this mod by Illusion is a major step forward and pulls off something players have been trying to attain for years. As per McDonald, the modder was able to run Bloodborne on a retail PS5 at locked 60 FPS and in full 1080p, which hasn’t been done before. Illusion inserted the patch into the console’s retail hardware, meaning it is now ported to run in the current state of PlayStation 5 exploitation.

Of course, you will need to hack your PlayStation 5 to execute this task and if you don’t know, that isn’t really recommended. But, even if it isn’t easily accessible to the normal player, seeing proof of Bloodborne running smoothly on the next-gen console is still brilliant to see. We can only hope that FromSoftware is pressured a bit more to release a 60 FPS patch for the title so we can play the classic game in the best way possible.

Widely considered one of the best games of all time, Bloodborne has become a cult classic in the gaming world. Considered by many as the hardest Soulsborne title, the FromSoftware game has sold about 2 million copies globally after releasing on the PS4. Since its launch in 2014, fans have asked the developer to release a PC or PlayStation 5 port on many occasions, but the game has stayed a PS4 exclusive all this time.

Hopefully, the rumors of a Bloodborne remake are true and we see the game at native 60 FPS on other platforms sooner rather than later.
