- Two weeks after launching, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has been put on sale on the PS Store.
- The game’s cross-gen bundle already has a 15% discount on it, retailing at $59.49.
- Modern Warfare 3 has received negative reviews from critics, with many calling it the worst game in the series.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has seen its first price decrease as the new Black Friday sale on the PlayStation Store has put a 15% discount on the game. Previously retailing for $70, the cross-gen bundle can now be bought for $59.49 on the PS Store, which is a significant price drop for a two-week-old game. Hence, it seems like the negative reception of the new Call of Duty entry has had some impact.
To put this Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 discount into perspective, the previous games in the franchise did not have a price drop until much later. Last year’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was only put on sale for the first time around Christmas on the PlayStation Store, almost three months after its release for a similar 15% discount.
Similarly, 2020’s Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War also didn’t budge from its original price until the Christmas period, which came nearly 2 months after its launch. For sure, the title did get a massive price drop of 65% in the holiday season, but it was still on a later date than Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. On the other hand, the poorly received Call of Duty: Vanguard in 2021 did get discounted on the PlayStation Store by Black Friday just like this year’s edition.
The underwhelming FPS title from Sledgehammer Games held out a bit longer than Modern Warfare 3 as it went on sale a week after Black Friday in Early December, under a month after its release. But, it did see a steeper decline in price with its standard edition getting discounted by 25% so you can say both performed equally badly.
In addition to its PlayStation Store deal, many other retailers have also put a $10 discount on the standard edition of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. When you consider how the first-person shooter game is the lowest-rated mainline title from the franchise on Metacritic, the discounts don’t seem outlandish. Even though our review called it one of the worst games ever with a mediocre campaign, the PS Store deal does have its pros.
