Capcom Titled The Best Publisher For 2023 By Metacritic

Metacritic has recently released its 14th annual game publisher rankings, and Capcom was named the highest-rated publisher of 2023. Capcom’s average Metascore was calculated to be 84.5 with 325.7 total points. According to Metacritic, Capcom finished at #1 thanks to its big releases, including Resident Evil Remake, Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective, and Street Fighter 6.

It’s also worth noting that many indie publishers have managed to secure a place in the top 10 publishers for last year. Raw Fury secured second position with a Metascore of 79.1. Capcom stood at 6th position last year, while Raw Fury was 16th in previous years’ ranking. In other news, Capcom just came out with Dragon’s Dogma 2 after years of wait and it seems to be doing not so great on PC.

Metacritic has its own system to rank publishers, and they are ranked according to a point system that uses four factors to calculate the score. Metascore was mostly calculated according to the games, but the percentage of titles with good, bad, or great reviews was also considered. The great games released by the publishers had to have a score of 90 or higher.

Below is the list of top ten publishers according to Metacritic for 2023, along with the last year’s rank.

1. Capcom- 325.7 points 
2. Raw Fury- 318.6 points 
3. Chorus Worldwide- 318.5 points
4. Dangen Entertainment- 316.4 points
5. Annapurna Interactive- 313.6 points 
6. Nintendo- 312.1 points 
7. Aksys Games- 310.2 points 
8. Bethesda Softworks- 308.3 points 
9. Sega- 306.1 points 
10. Thunderful- 303.3 point 

It is noteworthy that the best publisher of 2022, according to Metacritic, Sony, dropped from 1st place to 13th place. Of its ten titles, 3 received mixed reviews, and it only had one great game, according to Metacritic, which was Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Another big publisher, Microsoft, ranked 15 with only one game, age of Empires II: Definitive Edition being its top release.

There were also publishers that were not able to make the 2022 list but were on the 2023 list, including Serenity Forge, Take Two, Koei Tecmo, and Gearbox. I would also like to point out the fact that Humble Games suffered the most and dropped down a total of 28 positions, with only 30% of its titles receiving positive reviews.
