Story Highlights
- Control is one of the most well-known games of Finnish developer Remedy Entertainment.
- The title, whose sequel is in the works as well, has rolled over 4 million copies in lifetime sales as of yet.
- Remedy says Alan Wake 2, however, has done significantly better than Control in launch sales.
Control is in a league of its own with its unique psychokinetic gameplay and a thrilling narrative-based adventure that keeps you on the edge of your seat at all times. Reading into Remedy’s latest Stock Exchange press release, it’s a pleasure to realize that the title has sold more than 4 million copies to date—a fairly decent figure for a single-player title.
By comparison, Alan Wake 2 sold over 50% more copies and over three times more digital copies in its first two months than Control did in its first four months. Since its release in 2019, Control has sold over 4 million units, generating net revenue (shareable revenue between Remedy and a publishing partner, excluding taxes and platform fees) of approximately EUR 100 million,” says Remedy Entertainment.
Side by side, the report also sheds light on Alan Wake 2’s performance over the course of its release, saying that the game has sold over 1.3 million units following its launch in October, only to become Remedy’s fastest-selling title so far. Alan Wake 2 is set to receive two paid DLCs in the near future, and there is a possibility those will let us control characters other than Saga or Alan.
The last known sales figures relating to Control came forward in March 2023, when it was reported that the IP has sold more than 3 million units while making over €92 million in total revenue. Progress has been made on this front, evidently, and I’m personally glad that this ambitious IP gets to have more sequels, as Remedy has already confirmed in the past.
