Hours of Diablo 4 Closed Beta Footage Just Leaked Online

The game that can't catch a break.

In a piece of news that will surprise likely no one, it appears that multiple hours’ worth of footage of the Diablo 4 Closed Beta Test (or CBT) has just leaked online on just the first day of the game’s beta.

Even though the closed beta was under strict NDA, it appears many players don’t really bother taking legally binding contracts that seriously considering that it’s already on the internet.

Major Takeaways:

  • Gameplay from the Diablo 4 closed beta has surfaced online.
  • The leak comes from a Reddit user called “angrychut.”

The closed beta test for Diablo 4 was previously announced by Blizzard almost a month ahead of the beta launch where players could opt-in for the beta until the October 11th deadline. The closed beta shows off a lot of Diablo 4’s endgame content including new game modes and special events.

As was previously announced, the closed beta test for Diablo 4 would have the following 4 endgame specific modes:

  • Helltide
  • Nightmare Dungeons
  • Whispers of the Dead
  • Fields of Hatred

This is not the first time that we have seen Diablo 4’s footage leaked online. Only a month ago, Diablo 4 made the headlines (as well as another more popular franchise) due to a major leak giving away hours of footage from an early dev build of the game.

It seems Blizzard and Diablo 4 in particular can never catch a break when it comes to controversies. As more allegations pile up for Blizzard, and the game’s development gets rockier and rockier with each new external (and sometimes internal) development.

In a piece of more positive news, however, reception to Diablo 4’s trailers and new announcements has been generally positive with many praising the game’s visuals and art style. Blizzard has stated that they’re abandoning the lighthearted cartoonish look of Diablo 3 in favor of the dark, horror fantasy style of the original 2 Diablo games.

This is likely great news for fans as many of them have been eagerly awaiting a new Diablo game in the style of the originals. Many players actively ditched Diablo 3 in favor of its competitors like Grim Dawn and Path of Exile for their darker atmosphere and grim settings.

It makes a lot of sense why there would be a demand for that kind of setting again, as someone who recently just finished the original Diablo game, the atmosphere is one of that game’s biggest highlights. Its old grimy look and unnerving music make way for a genuinely scary and intense dungeon crawler.

Even though Diablo 1 might not have aged as finely in the gameplay department with lackluster RPG mechanics, it still feels satisfying to play in the moment to the extent that I actively found myself somewhat addicted to the game once I got into a decent rhythm.

So, the signs are still good for Diablo 4 as long as there aren’t any new controversies that take place over the coming year.
