Story Highlights
- Dragon’s Dogma 2, Capcom’s latest venture into the JRPG space, was a highly anticipated 2024 title.
- The game started off with more than 228,000 users but has now suffered a steep decline in this regard.
- Players of Dragon’s Dogma 2 on PC at least have dwindled hard, as per stats provided by SteamDB.
It seems the Dragon’s Dogma 2 hype might have already been slain, as the game appears to have lost about 90% of its PC player base according to tracking data provided by SteamDB. Capcom’s much-anticipated JRPG got off to a solid start, amassing over 228,000 players at the time of its launch, but apparently, the majority of that figure has dwindled now that we’re almost a month into release.
Although the decrease in the number of players is fairly significant, it bears mentioning that Dragon’s Dogma 2 is a single-player game, and it’s typical for those to lose portions of their userbase over time. That said, the fact that the JRPG suffered a bad launch due to the sudden onset of microtransactions which really took people aback, followed by dismal performance on PC, isn’t something that went under the radar.
Single-Player Games Losing Launch Player Percentage Isn’t Unusual Though
Now one could argue that other single-player titles such as Baldur’s Gate 3 and Elden Ring are still racking up more than 50,000 players on Steam every day, which is much more than what Dragon’s Dogma 2 is managing, but it’s worth noting that those titles either have insane replayability value or multiplayer elements that still keep the fun rolling, especially in Elden Ring’s case.

To talk about Dragon’s Dogma 2 in that regard, the game unfortunately has none of those features, so it’s expected from people to beat the mainline campaign and move on about their lives. Plus, let’s not dismiss the concern that some are still experiencing trouble playing the JRPG on PC, no thanks to its performance pangs that have plagued overall playability.
The title came out on March 22, 2024, for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. eXputer rated it 4.5/5.0 in its review, praising the title’s reactive world, fantastic combat, and the well-designed Pawn system. As of the time of writing, the game has rolled over more than 2.5 million units across the globe.
