Survival horror games have come a long way in the past decade or so. Games like Outlast, The Last of Us Part II, and Resident Evil Village have brought the genre mainstream success that it had been lacking. However, these popular AAA titles are just the tip of the iceberg in this genre.
Lots of great horror games come out every year, even though they are smaller in scale. These, mostly indie, titles are still the soul of the survival horror genre and get a lot of acclaim. One such underrated horror game series is DreadOut from an Indonesian developer, Digital Happiness.
The first game in the series was released on PC back in 2014 and kind of became a cult classic. It also got a movie adaptation and a sequel, DreadOut 2, which came out on PC in 2020. Recently, this very sequel is arriving on some new platforms next month.
DreadOut 2 will release on the Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One, alongside the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 in July. The publisher, Digerati, and the developer, Digital Happiness, just recently announced this release and also released a trailer for the game along with it.
The game will be released on both the previous-generation and current-generation Xbox consoles on July 15. PlayStation consoles will also get DreadOut 2 but the release is a few days late. The survival horror game will launch on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on July 20.
Players will have a delightful time playing this survival horror game. DreadOut 2 draws inspiration from Indonesian folklore and players will play as a high-school student, Linda Meilinda, with abilities. Players can see and sense ghosts as they try to hunt dark forces while controlling the protagonist.
It has a very exciting premise and is a very worthy sequel to the original game. You can fight ghosts, complete side quests and complete the Ghostpedia on Linda Meilinda’s smartphone in DreadOut 2. For just $19.99, this game is an absolute steal for players of the survival horror genre.
