You can skip to 15:00 of the following video, where Yoshinori Kitase talks about the Final Fantasy 6 remake.
Final Fantasy 7 (Rebirth) is a remake of such a large volume. A project that is extremely difficult to read in modern times,” Kitase said. “I’ve been involved with it for about 10 years and if I were to do a remake of (Final Fantasy) 6, it would take about more than twice as much time,” the Square Enix director revealed.
Hamaguchi said that apart from FF7, FF6 was a game that inspired him to become a game creator and he is a fan.
But Kitase said a FF6 remake at the same quality of FF7R would take twice as long to make because of the volume and FF7R will take almost 10 years.
