Over 21 Million People Prefer Petting Dogs Over Cats In Ghostwire: Tokyo

Only 6.2 million prefer cats.

Story Highlights

  • Tango Gameworks, the developer of Ghostwire: Tokyo, has revealed that over 21 million players prefer petting dogs, while only 6.2 million pet cats.
  • While this isn’t enough to end the debate of which of the two is a better pet, this surprising statistic is extremely amusing and fascinating.
  • Some people consider this to be rigged as many were unaware of the option to pet cats. Additionally, the gameplay encourages players to pet dogs, while cats do not want to be petted.

Ghostwire: Tokyo developer Tango Gameworks recently revealed interesting statistics. Over 21 million people prefer petting dogs in the game while only 6.2 million have been caressing cats. Although the disparity is massive, fans believe the dogs have an advantage because the gameplay encourages players to pet them for progressing in some areas. On the other hand, you can just read a cat’s mind to find points of interest.

Ghostwire: Tokyo consists of several areas or quests where you need to feed or pet the dog so they take you to the right place. On the other hand, you can’t feed the cats; you need to read their minds to get hints regarding quests and points of interest. Players believe this simple mechanic is the sole reason for these numbers, and if both animals could be treated the same way, the statistics would be way different.

As we glanced over a ResetEra thread discussing this topic, we read a user’s statement, “I think part of this has to do with “cat petting” not being a common thing. Typically it’s ALWAYS for just the dogs, so I imagine more than a few people were surprised you could even pet the cats.” Another user said, “You get items by feeding the dogs, and usually you just pet the dog afterwards.

While we can’t guarantee how much impact that might do, it certainly is a big factor. In recent games like Hogwarts Legacy, we have seen how players adore the simple interaction of petting cats, so we can’t say these little creatures are left out in the cold. On the off chance that these statistics factored in those reasons and considered players’ preferences rather than in-game data, these findings might become even more interesting.

Ghostwire: Tokyo was released exclusively on PlayStation 5 and Windows on March 25, 2022. After the exclusivity period, it was released on Xbox Series X|S on April 12, 2023. The game was developed by Tango Gameworks and published by Bethesda Softworks. In Ghostwire: Tokyo, players can use various psychic abilities to engage in combat, which the Combat Director, Shinichiro Hara, described as “karate meets magic.
