Rumor: GTA 6 Could Also Release On The Nintendo Switch 2

Take this with a grain of salt.

Story Highlights

  • Nintendo indie journalist and editor-in-chief of UnivNintendo, Necro Felipe, has claimed that GTA 6 will be released on the next Nintendo Switch console if the console has RT + RR.
  • Felipe also teased about hearing more “behind-the-curtain” information about some projects, which he is very excited about. However, he hasn’t revealed much about those projects.
  • Since we don’t know the release date of the next Nintendo Switch console or GTA 6, it is hard to tell whether this alleged release will be on the same day as other platforms.

Notable insider Necro Felipe, also known as Nintendo indie journalist and editor-in-chief of UnivNintendo, claims that GTA 6 will be released on the next Nintendo Switch console if the console has RT + RR. It should be noted that this is based on his speculations of Switch 2’s potential capabilities and some “behind-the-curtains” information he has heard about some of the projects.

It is widely known that even compared to Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, the Nintendo Switch lacks a lot, which is understandable considering when it was released. Felipe stated that if the next console is confirmed to have RT + RR, we might see many more simultaneous video game releases between the three consoles. He also mentioned that he expects something due to “behind-the-curtains” information on some projects.

If RT + RR is confirmed on the next Nintendo console, we will have an unprecedented generation of 100% simultaneous future releases + content parity with Xbox and PlayStation. I was already expecting something, given the projects that are talked about ‘behind the curtains,’ but this excites me much more,” says Necro Felipe [translated from Portuguese].

In replies to the original tweet, one fan asked Felipe whether GTA 6 would be released on Switch 2, to which he said, “Yes.” Despite his credibility, we would advise that fans take this with a grain of salt, as the original tweet was made based on speculations. Even though he claims to have heard of some projects for the next Switch console, he didn’t reveal anything directly.

Moreover, this could be pretty big, as Switch 2 would need to be extremely powerful to run a game of such scale. And if this turns out to be true, we will see a massive improvement in content parity between PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. However, we don’t know when the console or the game might be released or even announced, so it is impossible to say whether these releases would occur simultaneously with others.

GTA 5 was released around a decade ago, and the sequel, GTA 6, is expected to arrive next year, but no announcements have been made. Nevertheless, it will most certainly be one of the biggest video game launches and could even be expensive, with some rumors claiming it would cost $150.

As for Nintendo Switch 2, the console has yet to be announced, but there are many soft confirmations, one of the most notable ones coming from the previously leaked CMA documents. According to some credible sources, it is also believed that Switch 2 will start its production this year, hinting at a potential release as early as next year.
