Insomniac Dev Says Studio Is Now Focusing On Marvel’s Wolverine Development

The project was announced in 2021.

Story Highlights

  • Insomniac Games, the famed developer behind the magisterial work of Marvel’s Spider-Man and follow-up game Miles Morales, along with other noteworthy titles, such as Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart.
  • As Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 approaches its release date, fans can’t help but gather around in excitement. After all, it’s going to be one of the biggest video game releases that 2023 has to offer to boot, being a PlayStation 5 exclusive title.
  • Side by side, Insomniac Games is also working on another Marvel-centric project called Marvel’s Wolverine. The game was formally announced in 2021, and ever since then, word on the title has been silent.
  • A new tweet by an Insomniac Games studio member seems to affirm that the studio is now moving on from Spider-Man 2 and focusing on Marvel’s Wolverine, which is yet to have a concrete release date.

Insomniac Games has gained universal acclaim and newfound popularity ever since it pushed out the masterpiece that was Marvel’s Spider-Man. Next month, though, the studio seems to be dropping the sequel to the incredibly well-received title, and according to a studio member, Insomniac has shifted focus to another one of its projects—Marvel’s Wolverine—in the wake of that development.

As per their Twitter bio, Tommy Mann is a Senior Cinematic Animator at Insomniac currently and has worked for Crystal Dynamics and EA in the past. The developer appears to be working on Marvel’s Wolverine now, and according to the tweet in question, they’ve just wrapped up work on Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, which is due to release next month.

This is actually fantastic news for Marvel fans, but to give you a brief reminder, Marvel’s Wolverine was formally announced during the PlayStation Showcase 2021, which dates back almost two years back from now. The reveal showed a glimpse of Logan, sitting down on the counter in a banged-up bar, with a man approaching him from behind. In the next shot, we visualize Wolverine extending his claws, seemingly preparing to cut his foe down.

That’s it, folks. That’s all that Insomniac has pushed out on Wolverine so far. Back when the devs pulled the announcement teaser out, no one saw it coming, but the reveal was nothing short of a pleasant surprise, One fan commenting under the teaser video said, “If Insomniac actually manages to nail Wolverine as well like they did Spidey, I’ll be convinced that just about any Marvel Hero will be safe in their hands.”

Fast-forward two years later, it’s high time that Insomniac Games aligns its team to start rigorously working on the grand project. The fact that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, the sequel to the 2018-released Marvel’s Spider-Man, releases next month should free up the studio from its current occupation and offer some leeway to concentrate on other projects.

Speaking of which, the whole gaming world, especially PlayStation fans, currently awaits the release of the next iteration of the Spider-Man video game franchise. From what we’ve seen so far, the officials are hyping up the community far too intensively this time around, with a PlayStation Studios official recently commenting and holding the game in the following words

I’m not sure the world is quite prepared for what they are about to release upon it – it’s stunning, and in my humble opinion, their best work yet. Good luck getting to the finish line.”

For those who missed it, Sony released some fresh new in-game screenshots from Insomniac’s Spider-Man world as of late, detailing a minor portion of how the visuals are going to look like in the sequel. From what we can tell, the title’s visual differences won’t be too significant if compared with the predecessor, but their polish will be easily noticeable.
