The CEO calls the game the "ultimate spycraft fantasy."

Story Highlights

  • IO Interactive CEO reveals the upcoming Project 007 will be an “ultimate spycraft fantasy.”
  • The game’s James Bond has an inclination towards Daniel Craig’s portrayal of the character.
  • Project 007 will feature an original James Bond story with inspiration from the whole film franchise.

In a recent publication, IO Interactive’s CEO, Hakan Abrak has revealed that their upcoming Project 007 will be an “ultimate spycraft fantasy.” IOI initially announced development on the James Bond title in 2020 and yet has been somewhat quiet in terms of what’s cooking behind the walls. However, thanks to the recent interview, we now have something to anticipate until the official release.

In the recent issue of Edge (Issue 391) (via GamesRadar), the magazine interviewed Hakan Abrak and discussed the studio’s progress with their upcoming James Bond game, widely known as Project 007. Hakan shares with the magazine that the game’s Bond will be more closely aligned with Daniel Craig’s portrayal of the iconic secret agent than Roger Moore’s before describing the title as an “ultimate spycraft fantasy.”

The few other breadcrumbs we’re able to pick up in the office suggest a tone closer to Daniel Craig than Roger Moore, and perhaps a more scripted experience than Hitman’s freeform jaunts. It’s been pitched as ‘the ultimate spycraft fantasy,’ which suggests gadgets – and perhaps a step away from the murderous objectives of Agent 47.”

Furthermore, in a prior interview with IGN, Hakan revealed that the studio is working on an original James Bond story. This means we will be getting a brand new ‘digital’ James Bond for the gaming industry’s very own spy. The IOI CEO also shared with IGN, that Project 007 takes inspiration from the entire James Bond film franchise.

It’s very important that we could create a digital Bond. A Bond for the gaming industry… So it’s a completely original story. Every Bond kind of defines a generation and it’s amazing how they kept reinventing themselves over so many years. So, we’re not only inspired by one movie, or games and whatnot. We’re inspired by the whole thing, and just sucking things into us to make an original Bond, an original story.”

Moving forward, Project 007 has been kept with a degree of secrecy since the announcement, and we don’t have much on the plate except for the announcement trailer which offers no details beyond the game’s working title. Moreover, although unofficial we also know that Project 007 will feature third-person action, thanks to a job listing.

Lastly, we don’t have a release date for the game yet, but an IO financial report from last year suggested that the game won’t be released until March 2025
