The “Etikons” are custom-designed Joy-Con controllers that came to life in the memory of Desmond “Etika” Amofah. Desmond was a content creator who passed away by taking his own life back in June 2019.
To honor the well-grounded content creator, a fundraising campaign was launched on Indiegogo by Captain Alex. The initiative was soon able to raise quite a lot of money, and all donations went to the JED foundation for suicide prevention and mental health awareness.
However, news has broken out that Nintendo has threatened Captain Alex with a cease and desist.
The screenshot above can be seen in the JoyConBoyz Youtube video. The channel was made in the memory of Etika.
More discussion on this followed on Twitter, where one user also shared the following photo. You can clearly see that the campaign wasn’t successful, and people are having trouble getting their refunds.
Ever since all this broke out, Nintendo has remained a subject of condemnation. People have also brought up that the company canceled a Smash Bros Melee tournament and shutting down a Splatoon event in recent times. What takes the cake is this “Etikon” issue.
Nonetheless, the company claims that the issue is the “Joy-Con Boyz” logo on the controller. This falls under copyright issues, and Nintendo cannot seem to overlook this one.
