Story Highlights
- No Rest for the Wicked is a new action RPG by Moon Studios, the reputed creator of the Ori series.
- The game is a Soulslike and is graphically gorgeous, but its performance remains questionable.
- The Steam rating of the title has dropped to “Mixed” in the wake of its persisting issues.
Advertised as an action RPG that’s set to “reinvent the genre,” No Rest for the Wicked is a promising Soulslike, coming straight from the talented folks over at Moon Studios—the developer responsible for Ori and the Blind Forest, and Ori and the Will of the Wisp. The title is currently in early access on Steam and continues to struggle to keep a positive rating on the platform, as spotted recently.
From what I can tell so far, it’s not like there’s one single thing affecting the game’s image at the time of writing. On top of the performance issues that will put your PC to its paces, No Rest for the Wicked feels as if it wasn’t ready for early access yet. There are too many QoL adjustments that need to be made, features to be added, and accessibility options that have to be checked off the list.
Underneath The Issues Lie A Diamond In The Rough
That is to say, I can clearly see that there’s one gem of a game underneath all its persisting issues. No Rest for the Wicked is a visual marvel — that much is obvious — with the art direction being second to none in the grand scheme of things. The exploration is on point as well, with the game offering players the freedom to freely move around, pick up random things at will, and put them to crafting use at a later time.
Being Moon Studio’s “most ambitious game to date,” it’s apparent that the developer wants to get the right type of feedback in before it can pull No Rest of the Wicked out of early access, which, according to the title’s Steam page listing, is currently indefinite.
The feature roadmap shown on this page is the main outline for Early Access. We’re excited about the road ahead, and we’d love to receive your suggestions and feedback. While we have an idea of how long Early Access development should be, this may change based on feedback and the desire to reach the Moon level of quality.”
No Rest for the Wicked’s early access launch took place on April 18, 2024, for PC. It’s announced for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S as well, but will only arrive on those platforms when it’s released fully.
