Payday 3’s Release Date Leak Says It’s Coming In September

September is going to be wild.

Story Highlights

  • Payday 3 is another hyped release of 2023, coming in as a direct sequel to Payday 2. This particular entry in the Payday franchise is all set to feature characters from the original Payday: The Heist.
  • The first-person shooter has been confirmed to release this year, but no concrete release date has been outed as of yet, despite a teaser trailer dropping last month.
  • As per a new leak, Payday 3 will release on September 21, 2023. The information comes from someone who has had multiple predictions correct in the past.

According to a new rumor by a credible industry insider Aggiornamenti Lumia, Payday 3 is slated to release on September 21, 2023, merely three months from now. The developers—Starbreeze Studio and Overkill Software—pushed out a teaser trailer in May, promising a gameplay reveal to happen this summer. That could be anytime now, considering the fast-approaching Payday 3 leaked release date.

If the rumor is anything to go by, September looks exceptionally packed for the gaming industry. There’s Starfield and the expected launch of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 as well, as per a myriad of rumors. Anyhow, the Payday series sports an immense fan following, and fans couldn’t be more excited about this third mainline entry in the franchise, which is expected to take on a more modern approach to robbing banks and pulling off grand heists.

In other news, it was reported last month that Payday 3 has amassed more than 1 million wishlists on Steam ahead of its gameplay reveal and subsequent release this year. There’s a ton of hype for this one, considering how its predecessor—Payday 2—still seems to be doing so well, despite launching a decade ago. With the recent advances in technology and other pertinent systems, Payday 3 is possibly placed on a much higher level.

Moreover, it’s been hinted at in the past that Payday 3 was launching as a timed exclusive for the Epic Games Store, considering how Starbreeze Studio’s acting CEO Tobias Sjögren said the following in a 2020 interim report. However, once the new logo for the title dropped at the start of 2023, all of those rumors were put to rest as the branding of Steam was front and center during the reveal at hand.

We are standing strong and confident in our efforts to close a publishing agreement with a partner that is as passionate about games as a service as Starbreeze is and ready to join us in the successful launch of PAYDAY 3.”

For the uninitiated, the Payday franchise is centered on games that feature chaotic co-op shooting action. You play the side of the robbers in the cops vs robbers spectrum, targeting banks, shops, armored vehicles full of cash, and the distribution of illegal drugs. There are stealth mechanics involved as well, and each heist is best executed with the right amount of planning and strategic action.

Up until now, there’s Payday: The Heist, which was released in 2011 for PlayStation 3 and PC, and Payday 2, having launched back in 2013 for PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 as well, that constitute the franchise. Both games have been received well by critics and fans alike, but it was the sequel that essentially put the developer Starbreeze Studio out of debt with its strong sales, thereby saving the franchise as a whole.

If you’re after more information and up-to-the-minute news concerning Payday 3, consider signing up for the developers’ Nebula newsletter from the official Payday website. From what we can gather so far, this next Payday title is set in New York City and will feature the original gang once again, including Dallas, Hoxton, Chains, and Wolf. And at this point, it’s an understatement to declare Payday 3 as a high-octane, rip-roaring FPS.
