Resident Evil Village is the latest entry in the Resident Evil series, marking the return of its predecessor’s protagonist and a franchise icon—Chris Redfield.
In relatively recent times, the game’s version for the PSVR 2 was announced on PlayStation’s State of Play, thereby confirming the project’s existence and setting aspiring fans up for a visual fright in the not-so-distant future.
However, it appears that the developers have drawn inspiration from the forthcoming Resident Evil Village PSVR 2 variant and are intending to release a VR version of the game for PC. We had our doubts ourselves when we first read about the leak online, but some facets of the latest reveal do cement the scenario at hand.
The Rundown:
- Resident Evil Village is the latest installment in the Resident Evil franchise with a PSVR2 version currently in development.
- However, a recent datamine by Reddit user LitheBeep has revealed proof that VR support could be headed to the PC version of Resident Evil Village.
- The app history on SteamDB shows recent changes to the title’s executable file which further prove that the addition of the “VR” element isn’t from long before. Instead, the addition is fairly recent.
Taking to Reddit online, r/LitheBeep has managed to dig up interesting information with regard to the PC version of Resident Evil Village. From what we can tell, there’s actual mention of the Steam app receiving the VR addition for Capcom’s most recent survival horror thriller.
Moreover, the various strings refer to both OpenVR and SteamVR with the added mention of famous Head Mounted Displays, such as VIVE and Oculus. Check out the screenshot below for visual proof of what we’re on about here. The images have been uploaded to Imgur.
Furthermore, here’s the screenshot that depicts the addition of the “VR” tag in recent times, about 5 hours from the specified time. This is proof enough to get us excited, but as always, opting for the pinch-of-salt strategy will do you the best here. Keep your expectations low and you’ll never be disappointed.
Earlier this week, Resident Evil Village – Winters’ Expansion was launched across all the platforms that the game is available on. The DLC features multiple outfits, an additional story mode called Shadows of Rose, and a highly enjoyable third-person mode that allows you to play the game from a different perspective.
If you’re a fan of the best VR games, Resident Evil Village might seem like a noteworthy pick-up if the title does manage to sport a VR version on PC in the near future. As fans come across this information, most start asking for Resident Evil 7 in VR, which is, unequivocally, one of the scariest games in the whole series.
Do let us know what you think of this rumor in the comments section down below. In the meantime, we’ll be testing out the new third-person mode in Resident Evil Village.
