Story Highlights
- Rocksteady Studios is the talented creator of the Batman: Arkham franchise, which is now in shambles.
- After the failure of Suicide Squad, its latest release, the dev could be heading back to Batman.
- The rumor comes from a trustworthy insider who recently shared a pertinent post on X.
Known industry insider @Shpeshal_Nick took to X in recent times, saying that Rocksteady is working on a Batman game next, following the failure of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, a live service shooter that shows no resemblance to the Arkham franchise’s iconic legacy. The claim coincides with a Rocksteady job listing eXputer dug up last month, which states that the developer has a new project in the works.
It’s worth mentioning that the rumor cites a different project than Batman: Arkham Shadows, the Meta Quest 3 exclusive that Oculus Studios unveiled earlier this year in May. We currently have no information to share pertaining to what Nick has heard, so do take it with a grain of salt. If it’s true, however, I know a ton of people are going to be over the moon.
Rocksteady’s fall from grace is one of the most tragic stories in the gaming industry, where the once-iconic London-based developer was celebrated for its work on the Batman: Arkham franchise substantially. It still is, though, but the scenario is no longer the same, and the developer’s latest project is pretty much proof of how gaming as a whole needs a remake.
Fans Remain Fearful For A New Batman Game Even If It Does Come Out
With such a heavy-hitting superhero game trilogy under its belt, Rocksteady is no longer the studio it once was, and I don’t just mean that metaphorically. The founders of the studio, Sefton Hill and Jamie Walker, have long departed Rocksteady after creating the company in 2004, going on to make another studio called Hundred Star which is in exclusive partnership with Xbox Game Studios at the moment.
That is why fans and followers of the franchise remain trouble even in the face of a potential Batman game. One can only hope for the best from here on out, but WB’s clear stance on transitioning its biggest IPs to live service format is surely something that doesn’t help the case.
