Story Highlights
- Elden Ring’s first-and-only DLC Shadow of the Erdtree was released over a week ago.
- FromSoftware confirms that the expansion has sold more than 5 million units within 7 days of its launch.
- Shadow of the Erdtree has also become the highest-rated DLC of all time, surpassing Blood and Wine.
FromSoftware has made it known that Shadow of the Erdtree has sold over 5 million units today, following its launch on June 21. The expansion, achieving this massive accomplishment in no more than a week, has been pulling no punches as of late, bestowing upon players one of the best DLC experiences of all time. Suffice to say, the game’s certainly deserving of this early success.
Earlier in the week, Shadow of the Erdtree sent shockwaves across the industry by becoming the highest-rated video game DLC of all time, outclassing The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt’s Blood and Wine expansion. To that, even CD Projekt Red — the makers of the latter — couldn’t help but applaud the work put in by those legends over at FromSoft, remarking,
For the last 8 years, The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine had the honor of being the best reviewed expansion for a role-playing game – but @ELDENRING gets to wear that crown now. Congratulations to the entire team at @fromsoftware_pr on their stellar work!”
Shadow Of The Erdtree Has Been Too Hard On Players
With a more hands-on approach toward its story, more bosses, and brand-new regions to explore, Shadow of the Erdtree has sure brought the heat to its fan base. The DLC’s objectively harder than the base game, making players come together and complain about its difficulty on numerous social media platforms online. During my playthrough earlier, I felt the expansion getting a little too crazy as well with the boss fights.
FromSoft took prompt notice, thereby introducing weapon and other adjustments in a new update to make the game easier. The latter should allow the weaker of us to get through the DLC without having to die a gazillion times, but, oh well. There’s a lot of pleasure to impart in Elden Ring’s suffering. That’s for sure.
eXputer reviewed Shadow of the Erdtree and rated it 5/5, with author Haris Umer remarking,
Shadow of the Erdtree improves upon the already perfect Elden Ring with the addition of new weapons, regions, and bosses.”
