Tears Of The Kingdom Is The Fastest-Selling Nintendo Game Ever

Guinness World Records has officially announced Tears of the Kingdom as the fastest-selling Nintendo game of all time, having 10 million copies sold within the first three days of release. The popular title has surpassed the previous record holder, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, which sold 12.08 million copies in 24 days. Preceding that, New Super Mario Bros. for Wii sold 1.4 million copies in seven days and 10.05 million by its 8th week of release.

In 2009, New Super Mario Bros. for Wii set a record as Nintendo’s fastest-selling game with 10.5 million copies sold in 8 weeks. It took the company nine years to make another game that could surpass these numbers, and it did so in less than half the time. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for the Nintendo Switch sold 12.08 million copies in just 24 days in 2018.

In less than five years after that, Nintendo released another title, an iteration from The Legend of Zelda series, which managed to break the record in just three days. Tears of the Kingdom has proved that the game is here to make records, with people already considering it the top contender for 2023’s Game of the Year award. Its success and existence on Nintendo Switch are unfathomable, as many believe the console is outdated.

In the 37 years of the franchise’s history, Tears of the Kingdom has become the peak of Nintendo.
