The wait is over for the Fighting Game Community, and Tekken fans as the Tekken 8 was finally announced for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and Steam on the State of Play September 2022 Stream.
The stream featured a glimpse of gameplay and a thrilling fight between the iconic father and son, Kazuya Mishima and Jin Kazama.
Judging from the trailer, we might not get to see Devil Jin as a different character in the upcoming Tekken 8. Still, it would be like a power-up mechanic for the Jin Kazama character, like how Kazuya Mishima’s rage drive turns him into the Devil form, unlocking several moves and improving upon existing ones in Tekken 7.
It is also worth noting that no official date was announced for the game’s release. The trailer just confirmed that the game is coming. For now, it is safe to assume that the game is still in a very early stage and might still take a year or two until the official release date.
It has been almost eight years since Bandai Namco’s Tekken 7 was released in 2015, and it is one of the most played fighting games on Steam.
Still, fans eagerly awaited the announcement of a new game. Before this reveal, Tekken creator Katsuhiro Harada made a surprise appearance at the EVO 2022 Tekken 7 event after the Grand Finals and revealed a small clip of a new Tekken game.
It was unconfirmed at that point whether this new game was Tekken 8 or a remake of a previous game, while most fans expected it to be the former.
The announcement has made it clear that the game is coming but when exactly? We’ll have to wait a bit more to find out. It is also expected that the game would first release on the PS5 and later on Xbox Series and Steam.
