The Uncharted Franchise Supposedly Getting A Full Reboot

A dream come true.

Uncharted fans are over the moon; who could have thought they would live to see this day? After years of speculation about whether they would be able to meet Nathan Drake again, things may be looking up for them. Especially after the massive blow of Naughty Dog deciding not to move forward with the franchise.

However, according to a recent report by Theleak.co, it seems we may be getting a look at a brand new Uncharted far sooner than we had expected. Uncharted is certainly a cult classic. With its first game dating back to 2007, it has only skyrocketed since then.

MAJOR TAKEAWAYS:

  • Uncharted is one of the most successful franchises selling an astounding 41 million units globally.
  • The game was initially developed by Naughty Dog, who later chose not to pursue the game after its fourth part.
  • A recent leak suggests that the franchise may be getting a reboot.

It comes as a surprise to absolutely no one that Uncharted has shipped over 41 million units, making it one of the best-selling video game franchises. The game also played a heavy role in sealing Naughty Dog’s reputation as an outstanding developer.

According to Theleak’s two independent sources, there is a high chance that Sony will, in fact, reboot the entire trilogy rather than make the much anticipated fifth part.

Now, this Uncharted reboot will not be handled by Naughty Dog but will, in fact, go to a developer that has remained anonymous up until now. However, during the initial stages, it is expected that Naughty Dog will help the team get the hang of things.

While this new reboot does seem to be in its infancy, fans are already buzzing with excitement. However, many fans seem to think Drake’s era is done and dusted.

Many believe that the reboot should explore a new set of characters and should include some Drake cameos. One Uncharted fan has this to say, “A complete reboot with new characters is the way to go.” He continues, “The Drake story is done, let those characters rest.”

Many in the comments seem to agree with the sentiment, saying that “if it is not broken, no need to fix it.”

One fan added to this by saying, “Uncharted is something I want to continue; there are not good games like it around (actually, there are no games like it at all), but I would prefer the story to continue with different characters and maybe have Nate and Elena as guests. I don’t like the idea of starting all over again.”

Of course, there is no way to authenticate this, at least not fully right now. Theleak did, in fact, ask Sony for a comment, but they have yet to receive any reply.

Uncharted is an action-adventure video game franchise published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. It is available on a slew of consoles, including the PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, PlayStation 4, Android, iOS, PlayStation 5, and PC.
