Xbox, Nintendo Block Christmas Massacre From Their Platforms, Dev Claims

The PS1-style horror game is apparently "too crazy" for the Switch and Xbox.

Story Highlights

  • Developer Puppet Combo says Xbox and Nintendo Switch disapproved of their game Christmas Massacre.
  • Both of the aforementioned platforms have not given any reason for rejection.
  • The horror stealth slasher title, Christmas Massacre is coming to PlayStation on November 17.

Puppet Combo, the developer behind the PS1-style horror game, Christmas Massacre, claims that they are unable to release the game on Xbox and Nintendo Switch because the platforms won’t allow it. For those unfamiliar, Christmas Massacre is a popular stealth slasher from the indie developer that was first released on Steam in 2021 and is now heading to the console market.

The developer, Puppet Combo took to X (formerly Twitter) to announce that Christmas Massacre is heading to PlayStation. A fan asked about a potential Switch port, in response to which the horror developer disclosed that only Sony’s platform is permitting the game. Same with Xbox, Puppet Combo shares that they faced rejection from Microsoft’s platform as well.

In the ongoing discussion, fans persistently inquire about the possibility of Nintendo Switch and Xbox versions. In reply, the developer simply calls the game “too crazy” for the said platforms. While we can’t say much about what the dev means by “too crazy,” we saw in the gameplay video uploaded by Puppet Combo showing a Santa murdering children and a nun in a school, which the disapproving platforms may have deemed excessive. Note that this is still just speculation and both Nintendo and Xbox haven’t spoken on the issue yet.

Moreover, Puppet Combo’s previous games such as Cannibal and Stay Out of the House which follow the same style and horror theme as Christmas Massacre have been launched on both Xbox and Nintendo Switch. So, it remains unclear why both platforms disapproved the latest launch. Xbox has also previously rejected Nights at the Gates of Hell from the developer without any specific reasoning.

Christmas Massacre is “an 80’s inspired stealth slasher game” with PS1-style graphics. The game was initially released in 2021 on Steam with the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 ports coming on November 17, 2023.
