Certain Affinity Hiring For New F2P Multiplayer Blockchain-Based Shooter

This unannounced project seems similar to Last Expedition; however, the particulars suggest a different project in the brewer.

All the goliaths game studios often require the help of support studios to handle a part of the development process of big AAA titles. Certain Affinity is among the most prominent support studios that have shaken hands with giants to help craft some of the best video game titles. Certain Affinity was founded by Max Hoberman and a small group of former Bungie employees that wanted to choose a different path.

Certain Affinity has played a significant role in supporting large studios. However, the company has developed original IPs like Age of Booty and Crimson Alliance. Certain Affinity appears to have become certain of their future goals. The studio has started to be more of an independent studio as they are already developing multiple projects.

In January, Jez Corden revealed that an AAA multiplayer-focused project codenamed “Project Suerte” is in development. It is reminiscent of the Monster Hunter franchise, featuring large-scale battles, and is rumored to have been in development for a couple of years. Certain Affinity is believed to make an official affirmation in 2023, and the title may release in 2024 exclusively for Xbox consoles.

That’s not all; Certain Affinity also officially revealed their partnership with Gala Games to bring their original blockchain-based IP, Last Expedition, to the Gala platform. It will be the world’s first play-to-earn project to introduce blockchain technology to the gaming world. Gala Games cited, “Last Expedition is a blockchain game you want in your library alongside the rest of your absolute favorite titles.”

Surprisingly, there appears to be more arsenal; job listings by Certain Affinity suggest another unannounced blockchain-based shooter in development. The job listings for this supposed blockchain-based shooter are still up for leadership positions, and they usually would have been taken down after it was officially revealed.

An AAA title is unlikely to be officially announced when the roles for the positions have not been fulfilled even after several years of development. All the job listings on the official website start with the citation, “Would you like to work on some of the greatest franchises in gaming history? What about working on our new original IP?”

The job listing for Lead Producer requires “Experience developing blockchain technologies” and “Experience developing first-person shooter or action-adventure games.” The title may incorporate NFTs and appears to be play-to-earn as well.

The Lead Metagame Systems Designer job listing requires “Experience in F2P and live service games.” This unannounced title is free-to-play and will incorporate the live service features. It is worth noting that the official announcement for the confirmed blockchain FPS does not include the aforementioned live service features. This is another factor hinting that this unannounced shooter is a separate project in the brewer.

Description for the Lead Metagame Systems Designer Job Listing

Certain Affinity is hiring a Lead Metagame Systems Designer “to design and implement gaming systems for both single and multiplayer games.” Moreover, the requirements also mention details like, “Experience designing player character classes or enemy and/or NPC AI,” and “Experience designing maintaining meta-game systems or game economies.”

This unannounced title is an AAA shooter featuring both first and third-person perspectives. The requirements further state, “Passion for playing games and understanding the systems that drive them, especially AAA shooters (1st and 3rd person).” This AAA shooter will be released on multiple platforms, including consoles and PC; the mobile platform is also a possibility, as further noted, “Experience developing on multiple consoles, PC, and/or mobile platforms.”

Finally, the job listing for Principal Technical Designer suggests the title will incorporate “gameplay systems,” “missions,” and “multiple game modes.” The AAA shooter title is likely being developed in Unreal Engine 4 as cited as a requirement in the extra credits, “Experience working with Unreal 4.”

Moreover, this skeletal blockchain project requires the hiree to have extensive experience in titles such as “Call of Duty, Halo, Warframe, or Battlefield.” However, there are still chances of this project being the same as the announced blockchain-based shooter project, so do take this with a grain of salt.
