Coca-Cola Releases A New League Of Legends Flavor That “Tastes Like XP”

Time to level up.

Story Highlights

  • The Coca-Cola Company, creator of the world-famous Coca-Cola soft drink, is pushing out a new limited edition flavor in collaboration with League of Legends that will apparently “taste like XP.” League of Legends is an extremely popular MMO that was first launched in 2009.
  • The new drink called Coca-Cola Ultimate Zero Sugar is advertised to be “+XP Flavored” and is now available in a multitude of areas, including the US, Canada, China, South Korea, and various other African and Latin American regions, such as Brazil, Argentina, and South Africa, among others.
  • A non zero sugar version of this novel drink will also come out in due time, but only for the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Coca-Cola has messed around with a bevy of unique flavors with its separately established Coca-Cola Creations department, but this time, it appears we’re leveling up from the usual tanginess. The newly released Coca-Cola drink resulting from a collaborative effort with Riot Games allegedly tastes like XP, which is shorthand for experience points. The name that has been given to this novelty of a drink is Coca-Cola Ultimate Zero Sugar.

Coca-Cola Ultimate is primarily made to be a calorie-free drink, planned to release in a bevy of different countries, including the United States, UK, Canada Mexico, Latin American regions, African countries, and other parts of Europe. However, it’s been reported that a sugary version of the flavor will come to select regions as well in due time.

The company is of the opinion that this flavor will “provide fans and players the taste of experience points and celebrate every player’s journey – whether it’s their first time on the Rift or on the Finals stage at Worlds in pursuit of the Summoner’s Cup.” In the wake of the drink’s release, this is what Oana Vlad, Coca Cola’s global strategy director, had to say as well about the League of Legends-inspired drink in a statement (thanks VGC),

This collaboration with Riot Games allows us to continue elevating the Coca-Cola Creations platform with a brand new flavour that reinforces our shared mission to put fans and players at the forefront of everything we do.

Coca-Cola Ultimate, our seventh Coca-Cola Creation, carries an astonishing design, unlocks the taste of +XP for players on their journey and enhances their gameplay experience.”

To shed some light on Coca-Cola Creations, which is a specialized line of The Coca-Cola Company that deals with such unique products, similar collaborations have taken flight in the past. Back in 2022, the establishment doled out a pixel-themed drink called Coca-Cola Zero Sugar Byte, launching the flavor in the metaverse and real world alike.

Moreover, there’s another one of Coca-Cola Creations’ products that made the headlines early in 2022. This one is what the company defined as, “A fizzy solar coaster for your tastebuds.” Coca-Cola Starlight was advertised to be out of this world, quite literally, and ran for a limited period across a number of different regions, including the US and UK.

As for League of Legends, one of the pioneers of the MOBA genre, the game has been kicking the free-to-play business model for more than 10 years now albeit sporting microtransactions as one of the primary ways of generating revenue. League is played from an isometric perspective and features over 160 Champions, which are the game’s playable characters, as of 2023.

Furthermore, the title is huge in the eSports scene, with several international-scale tournaments with millions of dollars to win as part of their prize pools. It’s a no-brainer that Coca-Cola has joined hands with an IP as big as Riot Games’ League of Legends, considering the gigantic fan base of the multiplayer online battle arena title. If you’re in the US, keep an eye out in your nearby Walmarts, since those are quick to fill up on Coca-Cola Creations drinks.
