The Flat2VR server harbors many modders, including Praydog, who are working to bring AAA entries into VR.
The modder is on a mission to make almost every game fueled by Unreal Engine compatible with VR. In other words, they are adding motion control, head-tracking, and other features. A recent test posted by the Flat2VR discord server also reveals some enticing end results, showing the progress. The Universal mod has been in development for at least half a year, with it adding more features over time that will let many Unreal Engine 4 and 5-based games become playable on VR. As per the community member Alex, over 90 percent of the titles tested out of 255 Unreal Engine titles were able to run smoothly with the Universal Unreal VR mod without requiring any difficult changes, as the games run without requiring any further changes.
You can see the list of every currently tested and supported 255 games by Praydog in the following Twitter post. Titles like Hogwarts Legacy, Returnal, Psychonauts 2, Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, and many AAA entries work smoothly using the Universal mod. However, it is worth noting good system specifications are required for entries like Hogwarts Legacy.
In just 6 months, Praydog has gone from this crazy idea of creating a Universal Unreal Engine VR mod, to getting full 6DOF VR working in almost every Unreal Engine game, then additional rendering systems that make stereoscopic work when even Unreal Engine’s official solutions won’t work on certain games, then head based aiming, thousands of fixes, quality of life additions to finally motion controls.”
It is worth noting that not every Unreal Engine title will be able to run efficiently using the Universal mod, and some may not be supported. While the basic operations will work smoothly on almost every entry, it will become tough to nail every intricate detail down for each game.
Back 4 Blood was recently tested using the mod, which appeared to run nicely and felt like an official VR port of the renowned game.

A video shared in September last year showcased many prominent entries, including Stray, Ghost Runners, Life Is Strange: True Colors, Satisfactory, and many more. The aged footage perfectly encapsulates the potential power of the Universal mod.
According to the Patreon of Praydog, he is looking to add “a minimum of 6DOF support in most games, as well as a plugin system so modders can add motion controls as well.” Rightfully, the community is also very hyped, with many users showering the modder with a bundle of support and others celebrating the prosperity shown in the new teases.
While Praydog or Flat2VR’s Twitter handle has not yet clarified the exact release date for the mod, it was mentioned to release later this year for everyone. The mod is anticipated to be completely free, as per the Patreon of Praydog.
