Final Fantasy 16 Director Says Team Learned From Forspoken To Perfect The Game’s PC Port

That's why it is taking so long for it to launch.

Story Highlights

  • The Final Fantasy 16 director said it’s likely for future titles in the IP to launch on PC day 1.
  • Square Enix has also learned from Forspoken’s flaws to perfect FF16’s PC release.
  • The RPG is coming out for PC on September 11, with both of its DLCs included.

In an interview with GamesRadar, Final Fantasy 16 director Hiroshi Takai said it’s “possibly—probably even likely” for future titles in the series to launch on PC day 1. To avoid any confusion or confirmations, he clarified that this take was just his opinion, as it is in the team’s hands to decide and move with this strategy. Square Enix has been pursuing a multiplatform strategy “aggressively,” as seen in its fiscal report from last year.

I think it’s possible – probably even likely. That said, the team in charge of each project gets to decide its own policy, so this is just my personal opinion,” said the director.

Hiroshi also explains why Final Fantasy 16 is taking a long time to port over to the PC. Most of the time was spent polishing it to ensure the RPG was fully optimized. The devs could make the porting process any faster either because of the size and scale of the title.

We don’t get anything out of delaying its release either. That said, I don’t think there’s much more we could have done to speed up the porting process. Looking at the results, I think the time we’ve put into optimizing the game for PC was time well spent.”

Final Fantasy 16’s PC Port Is Seemingly Destined For Success

While talking about Forspoken and FF7 Remake Intergrade, the director assures that Square Enix has learned from its flawed PC ports. Square Enix has “addressed any points that could be perceived negatively” for FF16’s PC version by applying the gathered feedback from all the other projects. Therefore, all these points suggest we’ll have the best Final Fantasy experience on PC.
