Astro Bot’s Towering Sales Make A Strong Case For A Sequel

Who knew good games could've sold well?

Story Highlights

  • Astro Bot is one of the newest releases of 2024, launching to great reception across the board.
  • In a new update, it’s been revealed that the game has sold more than 1.5 million units.
  • Strong sales suggest that Team Asobi could be tempted to look into developing a sequel down the road.

Astro Bot makes it really easy for a person to get into gaming, purely because this game right here is the epitome of fun. A catchy, adorable main character on top of incredibly well-made levels, great art design, and smooth gameplay make the venture a top winner in the hearts of players, and now, Sony knows that too.

Releasing financial figures in a recent earnings report, Sony Group Corporation confirms that Astro Bot has rolled over 1.5 million copies following its launch in September. An interesting tid-bit to note here is mentioned in another report, which is actually the speech transcript of the live web call.

It seems that Astro Bot’s hype was able to attract a number of PlayStation customers who hadn’t spent their money on a PlayStation exclusive game in the past two years. That’s saying a lot.

Astro Bot, released on September 6, has received a Metacritic score of
94 and has garnered high praise from the gamer community. It is a
hit which has sold over 1.5 million copies in the nine weeks since its
release. 37% of the users who purchased Astro Bot had not purchased a firstparty title from us in the last two years,” confirms the report.

Ending up on a best-sellers list in the US as well, Astro Bot has not disappointed in terms of sheer quality—that much is guaranteed. PlayStation taking into account the game’s success should look into further iterations of the Astro franchise down the road, but as of this moment, no green signal has been given yet, so don’t hold your breath.

It’s a platformer at the end of the day, and those tend to have long legs. Compared to Sonic Frontiers, Astro Bot’s sales are going at a steady rate. Hopefully, it’s enough to convince the publisher to a reasonable extent.

On a side note, there is this one particular achievement in Astro Bot that teases a sequel in the works already, but the latter does fall in the domain of speculation. Take it with a pinch of salt.

Astro Bot was released on September 6, 2024, for the PlayStation 5 exclusively, garnering immense acclaim shortly after.

Let me know what you think about the game in the comments ahead.
