Sony Doubles Down On Single-Player Exclusives; Plans On Releasing One Every Year

Capitalizing on its strengths.

Story Highlights

  • Sony is expecting nothing but growth in its single-player exclusive game department going forward.
  • In a recent earnings call, the company has expressed its interest in this particular sector.
  • Ghost of Yotei is the first AAA single-player title Sony fans can look ahead to in 2025.

Laying out its future plans as the mega-corporation looks ahead to the coming years, Sony has said in a new earnings report that fans can expect AAA single-player releases every year starting 2025. To be fair, it’s not like PlayStation hasn’t pushed out a single exclusive in any of the preceding years.

It’s always looking forward to something, whether that’s Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 in 2023 or Horizon Forbidden West and God of War Ragnarok in 2022.

We are making steady progress in the development of new titles and improving our live-service game processStarting with Ghost of Yotei, which is a sequel to the smash-hit Ghost of Tsushima, we plan to continue releasing major single-player game titles every year from the next fiscal year onwards,” said Sony Interactive Entertainment boss Hiroki Totoki.

But, of course, I really do hope this doesn’t point toward remasters or remakes—something Sony is already really fond of.  On the flip side, if you look at the publisher’s upcoming line-up of exclusives, you’ve got quite a bit of material to talk about in there. A few examples include:

  • Fairgame$
  • Marvel’s Wolverine
  • Marvel’s Venom Marathon
  • New IPs by Santa Monica Studio, Naughty Dog, Bend Studio, Bluepoint Games

The next big thing that Sony fans are currently looking forward to revolves around Ghost of Yotei—Sucker Punch Production’s latest fascination that spiritually succeeded the icon that Ghost of Tsushima is and always will be. It’s coming out next year, which already tells us that 2025 is going to be massive for gaming as a whole, not to mention the contribution from Sony’s side.

In other news, it’s been reported that Sucker Punch Productions is looking forward to work on the Ghost franchise’s potential spin-offs after it’s done with Ghost of Yotei. I’m incredibly excited to observe how that pans out.
