The PS2 TimeSplitters Trilogy Is Joining The PlayStation Plus Classics Catalogue

About time.

Story Highlights

  • The PS2 TimeSplitters trilogy is joining the PlayStation Plus Classics Catalogue on August 20.
  • The first game could not be played without a PS2 in the past, so it’s a pretty essential addition.
  • The franchise has had a hard time ever since the trilogy, with a reboot recently getting canned.

The PlayStation UK Twitter handle has just confirmed that the upcoming PlayStation Plus Classics Catalogue on August 20 will also feature the PlayStation 2 TimeSplitters trilogy. That’s not all; the first game will now be completely playable without requiring a PS2 console for the first time, giving the OG fans a chance to catch up with a slew of nostalgia and memories. The fans are incredibly happy to see this addition to say the least.

Another benefit of the TimeSplitters trilogy’s addition to the PS Plus library is that players can also individually buy games there. In other words, fans who have been waiting to hog the trio of FPS masterpieces can now finally secure them before they’re taken off the service again.

The TimeSplitters Franchise Has Had A Shaky Ride Since The Trilogy

It’s fair to say that the TimeSplitters franchise never got fair treatment in the last decade. While no new title has come out, the now-closed studio, Free Radical Design, was working on a reboot project that was canceled mid-development. It was canned because the whole studio shut down, causing many fans sorrow. Since then, the gameplay footage and assets of TimeSplitters Next have been leaked by devs, giving us a glimpse into its nature.

Other Interesting Reads:

While the immediate future of TimeSplitters looks as bleak as ever, the addition of the classic trilogy to the PlayStation Plus service will reinvigorate the spirits of fans. Perhaps the popularity of these games on the subscription service will give another studio incentive to take the mantle of the franchise and carry on its legacy in the future.
