The Last Guardian Dev Likely To Announce New Game In 2023

The hint comes from a new Twitter post by genDESIGN.

genDESIGN — the famed developer behind the 2016-released action-adventure The Last Guardian — is gearing up to make strides in 2023. The latest update comes from the developer’s official Twitter handle where the Japanese dev expressed confidence and affirmed that in 2023, they’ll have a lot to talk about.

Other than that, the post wishes the forthcoming year to everyone and thanks the fans for their continued support. Moreover, the developers have put up a job listing as well in the tweet for a project that they’re working on currently. You can head over to the recruitment page on the official website for more details on that front.

The Rundown:

  • genDESIGN, the developing heads of The Last Guardian from 2016, is excited to make new announcements in 2023. The developer has another game in the works currently, and fans cannot wait for the official reveal.
  • Taking to Twitter to greet its fans for the new year, the official genDESIGN Twitter handle has said, “It’s finally a year where we can deliver a lot of topics to everyone!
  • The Japanese developer is recruiting artists, programmers, managers, and people for game design.

genDESIGN has greeted the new year to its fans with the following post on Twitter. Unless you speak Japanese, you will need to hit the “Translate this tweet” button to comprehend what the developer has said.

This new genDESIGN title is due to reach a wider audience than The Last Guardian, primarily because of the Japanese developer’s newfound relationship with Epic Games.

The latter will be acting as the publisher of all genDESIGN games going forward, so the developer has access to greater reach as compared to its previous stature.

The announcement of this proceeding came forth in an official YouTube video posted by Epic Games itself, thereby declaring the arrival of genDESIGN, Remedy, and Playdead to its catalog of covered developers.

Making the announcement official, a blog post was put up on the official Epic Games Store page, where the company’s CEO — Tim Sweeney — had the following remarks about Epic acquiring more developers to cover as publisher.

We’re building the publishing model we always wanted for ourselves when we worked with publishers.”

In addition, Hector Sanchez, Head of Epic Games Publishing, also had his say in the wake of the announcement with the following words.

gen DESIGN, Remedy, and Playdead are among the most innovative and talented studios in the industry, with strong visions for their next games.  They will have full creative control, while Epic will provide a solid foundation of project funding and services.”

Moreover, genDESIGN’s director — Fumito Ueda — was recently questioned by Famitsu as well, being asked what their ambitions are for 2023. The famed Shadow of the Colossus developer replied with the following,

All of genDesign is working hard to be able to finally announce something, so please give us your support.”

Joining these dots together, it’s quite likely that we will be seeing a reveal from the side of genDESIGN this year. Coming from these guys, it’s going be well worth the wait, as the impression of The Last Guardian has made its mark.
