The Witcher 3 next-gen update arrived two months ago and proved to be a substantial upgrade that breathed new life into the game. However, it did also cause a lot of performance issues for most players. As recently announced in a blog post, CD Projekt Red is hard at work to fix the reported bugs in future updates.
CD Projekt Red has just revealed that it is going to be fixing a multitude of issues reported by the community so far, which would highly improve the performance issues caused by The Witcher 3’s next-gen update.

CD Projekt Red has announced a list of the most critical bugs that it is seeking to tackle. For instance, the team is working on CPU core utilization, which was reported to be one of the main impediments. The fix will focus on improving how The Witcher 3 handles CPU core utilization.
CDPR is also addressing the issues surrounding the DirectX 12 version, which is leading to performance drops, like significant lagging after toggling the Raytracing on in The Witcher 3. The future updates will concentrate on enhancing “the overall performance and stability of the DirectX 12 version of the game.”
Moreover, the developers are working towards enhancing the user experience for console ports, namely the Xbox Series X and the PlayStation 5. The players have seemingly reported that toggling the performance mode causes more harm than good, effectively leading to a dip in frame rates. It is worse in demanding areas of The Witcher 3.
Additionally, the blog post mentioned how the team is toiling towards improving the ray-traced global illumination and ray-traced shadows. While the prior fixes have already patched most of the crashes caused due to the Raytracing features, some visual anomalies are still seeable while walking through the grassy fields.
A quest-related bug is also being dissected. Following previous patches, some players could not interact with the elf NPC named Avallac’h to pursue the “Battle Preparations” quest. There are reportedly still no dialogue options to interact with the character, which makes it unable for the users to follow through with the quest.
The team is trying to reproduce the bug to understand the leading cause behind it; we could see the bug finally die out in one of the future patches. A bug specific to the PC port, Horizon-based ambient occlusion, is also under inquiry.
The team is also further examining the crashes reported by the players to optimize The Witcher 3 next-gen experience for all users.
The Witcher 3 next-gen patch was one of the most awaited in the last year, with fans expecting its arrival to upgrade the visual and technical allure of the game completely. While the graphics did enhance considerably, many fans reported witnessing many hiccups in the performance aspects of the next-gen version.
The inception of the next-gen update proved to be a hit-or-miss experience, and the developers also received backlash due to the update leading to crashes and very noticeable frame rate drops to some users. All in all, the upcoming patches may alter and improve The Witcher 3’s next-gen experience by a wide margin.
