The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom’s live-action USA TV spot’s unfinished version has leaked and hints at some interesting aspects of the game. In the commercial, Link is in a pitch-black area that he illuminates by shooting an arrow at a nearby tree. And fans think that this part of the game is actually taking place deep underground.
A user on the Zelda subreddit leaked this ad which is 59 seconds long, with the last 30 seconds being blank. You can see the sequence where Zelda lights up the dark area at roughly the 20-second mark. On the bottom of the TV screen in this commercial, a minimap is visible with three coordinates. These readings are for the X, Y, and Z-axis, and after studying them, players are predicting this is an underground cave.

You see, the coordinates for the Z-axis are -0.479, which in Zelda terms, means this area is deep underground. For comparison, this area is as much below ground as the dueling peaks mountain range is up in the sky. A user on the NeoGAF forum said that this area goes as deep underground Hyrule as the sky islands go above it. Hence, this cave is really far down in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, with emphasis on really.
Considering how we haven’t heard of this feature yet, this is a huge surprise for fans. The luminescent flower arrows are also another facet of the game that wasn’t present in the trailer we saw yesterday. In addition to the discovery of the underground cave network, this commercial also confirms the return of a recurring boss. The Gleeok is set to annoy players in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, but with a twist.
At the 12-second mark of the trailer, you can see a dragon chasing Link in a boss fight. This part of the ad also displays the name of this menacing creature on the Nintendo Switch. “Flame Gleeok” is the name of the three-headed dragon trying to kill our main character. The presence of the adjectives indicates more variations of the Gleeok may exist in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
Gleeok has had such skillset variety in previous games like 2007’s Phantom Hourglass. In this title, one of Gleeok’s heads attacks by breathing ice while the other one breathes fire, similar to this TV spot. However, this is the first time an adjective has been used besides an individual Gleeok variant. Therefore indicating that we will possibly see a separate ice-breathing Gleeok in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
In Zelda lore, Gleeok also has some variations based on the number of heads he has. The first game featured him with two, three, and four heads, while Gleeok in Oracle of Seasons had two heads. Similarly, he had two heads in Phantom Hourglass and protected the Temple of Ice. And, from the leaked TV spot, it looks like he will be reverting back to three heads in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
Nothing else shown in the TV spot was new besides these details. The hype for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is already through the roof, and with the potential inclusion of underground cave networks, it will only increase. Luckily, we don’t have to wait long as the game launches on May 12, 2023, for the Switch.
