Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s Gameplay Trailers Have Amassed 20 Million Views

The hype is immense for the web crawler.

Story Highlights

  • Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is the much-anticipated sequel to the 2018-released Marvel Spider-Man and it’s slated to release in fall 2023.
  • The title’s gameplay was recently revealed at the PlayStation Showcase 2023 and up until now, the total view count of all three relevant videos has crossed 20 million views.
  • This highlights the titanic hype surrounding Insomniac’s upcoming exclusive release for the PlayStation 5. The combined views of Spider-Man 2 have crossed that of the Showcase itself.

It’s safe to assume that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is on its way to becoming one of the biggest releases of the year if not the biggest altogether. The title was highlighted a little more in-depth at the recent PlayStation Showcase which aired on May 24. Since then, the three relevant videos pertaining to the web crawler, two gameplay-oriented and one cinematic, have amassed a view count of nearly 20 million. Absolutely massive, to say the least.

The footage that boasts the highest number of views out of the rest of the two videos comes from the Marvel Entertainment YouTube channel. It’s 12 minutes long and showcases the entirety of the gameplay reveal that aired during the Showcase event. This one has gathered 9.3 million views and counting alone and is the full-length feature of the title’s gameplay masterclass.

Next up, there’s the nearly 11-minute-long gameplay footage of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 uploaded by PlayStation itself, excluding the cinematic cutscene of Kraven the Hunter at the beginning of the reveal. The video in question is sitting at a 7.6 million view count, showcasing both Peter and Miles as they put a stop to Kraven’s forces and embark on an epic city-spanning chase for Lizard a.k.a Dr. Connors

Last but not least, PlayStation also uploaded the cutscene that was shown at the beginning of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 airtime. Being such an underrated villain, it’s a breath of fresh air to see an adversary like Kraven take on New York City. Saying that we’re in for a wild ride would be a due understatement here, given how Insomniac has stepped things up with the sequel, featuring on-the-fly switching between Miles and Peter mid-gameplay.

Including the view count of the last video, the total figures are a bit far from the 20 million mark for now, but we’re not factoring in the assailment of mirror videos uploaded on YouTube by the likes of GameSpot and IGN, which bump up the stats fairly close to that number. In any case, Spider-Man 2 will be a record-shattering exclusive for PlayStation, and there’s just no stopping it.

In recent times, it has been unearthed that a total of three skill trees will be present in Spider-Man 2 for players to progress. Two of those are easily comprehensible, given how Miles and Peter have their separate skills to learn. But the third tree, to our surprise, will be shared between our two favorite Spider-Men. This information was revealed on the PlayStation Blog earlier.

Between Peter’s new Symbiote abilities and Miles’ newfound blue bioelectric powers, each Spider-Man has their own unique set of skills that can be upgraded via all-new individual skills tree. Our heroes share technology and train together, too, so we also included a shared Skill Tree that offers parallel upgrades for both.

PlayStation first announced Spider-Man 2 at the 2021 Showcase event, stating 2023 to be the release date for the game. Thankfully, Insomniac appears to be sticking to its word, even though we live in an era of video game delays. Although there is still no concrete release date out, multiple corroborations, such as one from Venom’s VA, seem to indicate that the title is coming this year—around fall time, to be exact.

Moreover, Insomniac too led fans toward affirmation last year, dispelling speculation and showing confidence in Spider-Man 2’s 2023 release date. We’re pretty close to the September-October release window, considering how the first title also launched in the month of September. There’s not a lot of waiting left anymore on that front, but God I wish time would fly right now.
