Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s New Game+ Will Arrive Early Next Year

This along with a number of other features.

Story Highlights

  • Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is one of the most well-received PlayStation exclusives of 2023.
  • The game’s New Game Plus mode has long been in the pipeline, but it appears it’s not coming soon.
  • Insomniac has issued an update, declaring that many of Spider-Man 2’s new features will arrive in 2024.

For the most part, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is a game as complete as they come, but evidently, it’s still missing out on some popular features most narrative-driven titles encompass, including a New Game+ mode. According to a new update pushed out by Insomniac, NG+ and more are coming to the action-adventure in early 2024. The dev says that it needs “more testing” to bring forth the high-quality changes.

Among New Game+, the Audio Description feature has also been on Insomniac’s radar for a long time, thanks to fan requests pouring in. But not just that, the developer says that other additions, such as being able to change the time of the day, which, on the other hand, the community has already found an unorthodox way to pull off, and tendril color swaps are being focused on as well.

We are now targeting Early 2024 for the next game update, and we’ll have a feature-complete list closer to its release. We’ve heard your feedback and will be adding some highly requested features, including the ability to change the time of day, swap tendril colors, and replay missions – just to name a few! We can’t wait to share more with you in the future. In the meantime, we appreciate your patience as our team works to finish our next update for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2!” reads the post by Insomniac Games.

It is likely that certain aspects of Spider-Man 2’s overall post-launch support might not have gone as planned, because earlier, the Director of Community and Marketing James Stevenson at Insomniac stated that New Game+ should be out for the game by the end of this year. Now, however, the stance on the matter is fairly different, but considering that the holidays are fast approaching as well, we’ll have to go with the old adage, “Better late than never.”

In case you missed it, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was nominated a total of 7 times at The Game Awards this year, but unluckily, it ended up winning none of those by the end of the event. In every category it was a nominee in, including the prestigious Game of the Year, it seemingly got outclassed by its fellow competitors, with the big win going to Baldur’s Gate 3, which is now out for Xbox Series X|S as well.
