Spider-Man 2 Receives 7 Nominations At The Game Awards

It also currently runs for Game of the Year.

Story Highlights

  • Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has been utterly fantastic for both Insomniac Games and PlayStation.
  • The game has turned out to be a flat-out smash hit thus far, going on to impress at the TGA.
  • Spider-Man 2 has received 7 nominations for different categories at the The Game Awards 2023.

It’s that time of the year again when Insomniac’s Spider-Man IP is shooting for the stars in terms of being a throughout success. The sequel to the 2018-released Marvel’s Spider-Man, having released exclusively for the PlayStation 5, has gone on to collect 7 nominations for various categories at this year’s The Game Awards. Considering the overall quality of the title, this comes off as a surprise to no one.

Kicking things off, Spider-Man 2 is primarily web-shooting for the grand Game of the Year award, where the open-world action-adventure finds itself accompanied by Remedy’s Alan Wake 2, Baldur’s Gate 3, Resident Evil 4, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. As always, you can sign into the official TGA website to cast your vote on the title you think deserves the win.

The rest of the nominations for Spider-Man 2 include Best Game Direction, Best Narrative, Best Performance, Innovation in Accessibility, Best Action/Adventure, and Best Audio Design, although I’m pretty sure Alan Wake 2 will be taking that last one home.  Some of the other games that Insomniac’s magnum opus is going up against include Hi-Fi Rush, Diablo 4, Mortal Kombat 1, and Dead Space.

For those not in the know, fan voting for The Game Awards’ nominees will run until December 6 at 6 p.m. PT. The FAQ section of the event’s official web handle confirms that winners are selected by a “blended vote between the voting jury (90%) and public fan voting (10%).” As for the live event, catch Geoff Keighly hosting the show on Thursday, December 7, 2023, at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.

Today marks one whole month since Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 came out, and it’s already a commercial success for the higher-ups. The game sold 2.5 million units in one single day, becoming PlayStation Studio’s fastest-selling title to date. Furthermore, it remained October’s most downloaded game on the PlayStation Store, and for good reason, obviously.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 came out on October 20, 2023, for the PlayStation as a first-party title, though I reckon it’ll head to PC in a few years as well. In eXputer’s review, Usama Mehmood gave the game a 4/5, casting a lens on its terrific combat, striking visuals, and amazing depth of gameplay. For new players, I advise checking out this easter eggs guide to get the most out of the title.
