A New Ad Makes The Strategy Consumer-Facing

Sony released a new advert titled “Only on PS5” on August 24. It stitches together footage from Marvel’s Wolverine, Ghost of Yotei, Saros, God of War Laufey, Astro Bot, and Gran Turismo 7. The phrase “PlayStation 5 exclusive” runs through every clip. The voiceover closes with a direct line: “These moments don’t happen anywhere else. So come and make the unthinkable happen. Only on PS5.”
This is the first time in this console generation that Sony has marketed a slate of first-party games this explicitly as exclusives. None of the six games shown have been ported or announced for PC.
Sony Quietly Confirmed This Months Ago

Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier first reported it back on March 4, 2026. Sony was pulling back from bringing PlayStation games to PC, he said, with future single-player titles set to stay console-exclusive.
On May 18, PlayStation Studios CEO Hermen Hulst told staff directly in a town hall that the shift was real. Schreier reported it at the time: “PlayStation studio business CEO Hermen Hulst told staff in a town hall Monday morning that the company’s narrative single-player games will now be PlayStation exclusive, confirming Bloomberg’s reporting from earlier this year.”
Sony backed that up on paper a month later. Its annual SEC filing on June 18 quietly dropped a line from the prior year’s report, one that had stated a plan to keep deploying first-party titles across multiple platforms, PC included. That deletion was the closest thing to an official confirmation, until this week’s ad made the strategy something Sony is now actively selling rather than just quietly walking back.
Live-Service Games Are Staying On PC

The shift only targets narrative, single-player PlayStation Studios titles. Ghost of Yotei’s planned PC port was reportedly scrapped as part of the pivot. Marvel’s Wolverine, out September 15, and Housemarque’s Saros are both confirmed PS5-exclusive with no PC version planned.
Live-service games are a different story. Sony has been explicit that titles like Helldivers 2 and Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls will keep releasing simultaneously on PC and PS5. Those games depend on the largest possible player base to work, so cutting off PC isn’t really an option for them.
Games that already made it to PC before this pivot aren’t affected either. The God of War series, the Spider-Man games, the Horizon series, and Ghost of Tsushima all remain available. The change only applies going forward, marking a clean break from the platform-expansion approach Sony had followed since Horizon Zero Dawn’s first PC port back in 2020.
