Fan Gives Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 A Spider-Man Noir Makeover

And the results are jaw-dropping.

Story Highlights

  • Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is the next game in line for Insomniac’s Marvel’s Spider-Man IP.
  • The title has been praised universally for its in-depth suit choices and their customization.
  • A fan, playing around with different settings, has given the game a Spider-Man Noir makeover.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has delivered far past expectations, thanks to Insomniac’s sheer masterclass. Not only is the base game a highly polished product for the most part, but it also involves customization options for the more curious among us to experiment and take the experience to the next level. As it happened so, one fan has done just that, painting Spider-Man’s New York in Spider-Man Noir’s colors.

Redditor SpaceYetiGamer tinkered with the in-game settings of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and found himself transforming New York’s theme into something else entirely. The 3-minute long video’s first half focuses on showing off the player’s work, but the latter part explains how others can replicate what they’ve done with a deep dive into the settings.

For those not in the know, Spider-Man Noir, otherwise simply known as Noir, is an alternate Spider-Man belonging to a different universe, one which is set in the mid-1930s and where Norman Osborn reigns supreme as a crime lord. As opposed to the friendly-neighborhood Peter Parker we all know and love, Noir isn’t against employing the use of lethal force, given how he’s an expert marksman with a thing for guns.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, among all the different outfits it features for both Peter and Miles, has a Spider-Man Noir suit as well, coming with specialized, low frame rate animation. It’s truly special, and you’ve got to try it out, as did I, and fell in love instantly. Just so you know, though, the Noir outfit is unlocked at level 22 and requires 50 Tech Parts and 4 City Tokens to craft from the in-game menu.

The Redditor explains what parts of the setting you have to tweak in order to get the same world theme as them in the video. Although you’ll need to follow the instructions outlined verbatim for the best results, the gist of it revolves around enabling “Film Style Animation,” “Comic SFX,” and “High Contrast Background.”

In other news, Insomniac has just released patch v1.001.004 for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, bringing routine bug fixes, and resolutions for other errors that impeded playability. We’re still waiting on that New Game+ mode that Insomniac promised to fans earlier, with one of the devs saying that it would arrive later in the year. That said, I’ll be rocking this Noir makeover on my end until NG+ comes out, that’s for sure.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 came out on October 20, 2023, for the PlayStation 5. In our review, eXputer gave the game a 4/5, labeling it yet another incredible PlayStation exclusive.
