Spider-Man 2 Sales Cross 10 Million; Franchise Rolls Over A Total 50 Million Copies

The latest title in the franchise came out in October last year.

Story Highlights

  • Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is the newest installment in Insomniac’s Spider-Man franchise of video games.
  • Insomniac has recently revealed that the game has crossed more than 10 million units over the course of its release.
  • The franchise itself has clocked rolled over more than 50 million units at the time of writing, Insomniac confirms.

A game like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 surely doesn’t miss when it comes down to dish out hours of pure thrill and fun-filled gameplay, being the third mainline title in the critically-loved Marvel’s Spider-Man franchise by developer Insomniac Games. It turns out that the title has sold over 10 million copies to date, signaling sheer success for the action-adventure, with the cumulative franchise sales exceeding the 50 million mark.

The last reported figure on that front came back in December, when the notorious Insomniac hack revealed a bunch of confidential info to the masses, including how Spider-Man 2 had sold about 6.1 million copies at the time. One month before that — in November — Insomniac made a post on X (formerly Twitter) announcing that the title had reached 5 million sales.

This means that Spider-Man 2 was able to achieve the 10-million milestone within 4 months of release, and rightfully so. I mean, the game’s pretty incredible. I ran through it from top to bottom, and save for a few complaints here and there, such as the narrative direction feeling a little lackluster, it’s an extremely enjoyable venture, and absolutely worth picking up any day of the year.

The parry mechanic is Marvel's Spider-Man 2's best addition.

On a side note, though, Insomniac was hit with ransomware in December, with the hackers demanding 50 Bitcoins in 7 days. The situation was ugly, as the attackers dumped a substantial amount of the developer’s under-the-works projects on the internet, including secretive Marvel’s Wolverine gameplayeXputer created an analysis video of the scenario, examining the stand Sony took and whether it was right. Do check it out.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 came out on October 10, 2023, for the PlayStation 5. We reviewed the game and rated it 4/5, with author Usama Mehmood labeling it “another remarkable PlayStation exclusive” and praising its engaging combat, accessibility feature surplus, and sensational visuals. At the moment, the world, myself included, awaits Spider-Man 2’s New Game+ mode, which arrives on March 7 in a new update, along with more suits, and other features.
