Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Has Already Sold Over 6.1 Million Copies, Reveals Leak

The open-world superhero franchise has continued to attract swaths of new players after a month.

Story Highlights

  • Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has rolled over a notable 6.1 million copies worldwide, per the infamous hack leak.
  • It has gained over a million in weeks. Insomniac Games announced it hitting 5 million just a month ago.
  • The title has sold like hotcakes right after launch, becoming the fastest-selling PlayStation exclusive in history.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has been on a selling spree ever since its launch. As of November 12, it has rolled over 6.1 million copies, a drastic increase since the last known figure. The figure has been revealed through the recent ransomware attack on Insomniac Games and was spotted by users across various forums, such as ResetEra. One of the leaked slides mentions the sell-through data of the game as of the aforementioned date.

The fans have praised the new highlight since the sales growth is impeccable, to say the least. The last public sales milestone of 5 million was shared by Insomniac Games. It was a big deal because Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 had sold over five million copies in only 11 days after release.

The extra million copies during the last month are a much bigger deal than it might appear. The leaks have affirmed that the title is projected to sell at least 10.5 million units to meet the exposed $315 million budget spent on creating the chef-d’oeuvre. In other words, the devs are closer to breaking even than ever before. The return on investment is 35%, and total profits of $75 million are expected.

Additionally, it sold over 2.5 million copies in just 24 hours after release and became the fastest-selling PlayStation exclusive. We can expect the game to soon churn a plethora of profits for Sony. All in all, other recently leaked details suggest that the entry will get three new free DLCs along with the NG+ mode in the future.
