Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Won’t Have New Game+ On Launch

The same goes for the ability to replay main missions.

Story Highlights

  • Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is merely hours away from its release now, with fans waiting impatiently to get their hands on the sequel to the mega-hit Marvel’s Spider-Man.
  • As for the game’s New Game+ and mission replay features, an Insomniac Games representative has confirmed that these won’t be available for the game on day one.
  • However, the devs are working on both functionalities and plan on releasing them by the end of the year, so fans won’t have to wait too long.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 can’t come any sooner, but thankfully, there’s not a lot of wait left either. As the game is just some hours away from its global launch on the PlayStation 5, the Community and Marketing Director of Insomniac Games has given out an interesting bit of information concerning a major game update. It’s now confirmed that the Marvel’s Spider-Man sequel won’t have New Game+ mode on launch.

For those not in the know, New Game+ is a specialized way to replay a game that lets you play with everything you acquired in the title on your first playthrough without having to do all of that again. Depending on what you’re playing, the latter can include extra equipment, weapons, skills, XP, in-game currency, and other collectible items that you picked up when you first played said game.

Right alongside New Game+, the ability to replay missions has also been highlighted, thanks to X (formerly Twitter) user Bojo214. Both Marvel’s Spider-Man and the follow-up expansion Miles Morales had a system in place that made it possible for players to dig into the main campaign missions they played earlier. The same feature will arrive for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, but not right off the bat.

As for when exactly will you be able to check out the title’s New Game+ and mission replay, James Stevenson has said that the feature should be rolled out for Marvel’s Spider-Man “before end of year.” The way my schedule looks, I know I’ll be sitting through my first playthrough for a good enough while so as to not miss the New Game+ at all. Besides, the functionality will already be there a couple of months in.

In other news, early reviews for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 are in, and guess what? It has become the highest-rated Spider-Man game of all time, gracefully embracing Metacritic’s “Must-Play” label subsequently. However, tread your path carefully, because that’s not the only thing that has surfaced on the internet regarding the forthcoming sequel.

Major Spider-Man 2 sequels are running rampant online, unfortunately, and you best not scroll your social media feeds recklessly if you want to dive into the game without being spoiled. Not long ago, it started with the entire suit list of both Spider-Men, followed by a leak that teased the return of an iconic Spider-Man baddie, who is now confirmed to be Sandman, thanks to the game’s launch trailer.

Just make sure that you update your copy of Spider-Man before you start playing on the PlayStation 5. Insomniac says in the following tweet that although the game can be enjoyed from start to finish without having to go online or download any patch, the best possible user experience will come after installing the 1.8 GB pre-release update, titled v1.001.002.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 marks its release on October 20 for the PlayStation 5 exclusively with no cross-gen compatibility with the PS4.
