Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Receives A 1.8 GB Pre-Release Update

Routine bug fixes and stability issues are most likely expected from the pre-release patch.

Story Highlights

  • Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s global release is less than a week from now, and it’s safe to say that action-adventure open-world title has gathered a mountain of hype to its name.
  • The sequel to the mega-hit Marvel’s Spider-Man that was released in 2018 for the PlayStation 4 has just received a pre-release update, with a file size of 1.831 GB.
  • Games getting minorly patched prior to their launch isn’t an unusual scenario—the devs ought to make the day one experience as smooth as possible.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is making headlines with each passing day as it gets nearer and nearer to its global release. In recent times, it has been reported that the upcoming action-adventure has received a day one patch on the PlayStation 5, with its file size being 1.831 GB. The update, titled v1.001.002, is most likely to address minor bug fixes, and other glitches that the devs might have spotted ahead of time in the game.

It bears noticing that this update has been pushed out by Insomniac right after the pre-load for Spider-Man 2 went live, occupying about 86 GB of storage space on the PS5. With a slew of more updates such as this one, coupled by the usually sizable day one patch, is sure to propel the title’s overall size to well over 100 GB by next year. Besides, the limited edition PS5 bundle of the game mentions “at least 98 GB of minimum storage required.”

In other major news, the prospect is sad, but it’s actually out there that crucial Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 spoilers are out in the open right now. We thought we’d seen it all when the leak surrounding the return of an iconic Spider-Man villain surfaced for the sequel, but apparently, the entire storyline of the game has been dumped on the internet online, along with gameplay footage that go over massive plot points.

Apart from the open-world gameplay leak, the main menu screen seeping out, and the entire suit list for both Spider-Men, Peter and Miles, appearing on various video game forums, it’s unfortunate to see that what Insomniac intended for its massive player base won’t be happening for the most part, which is diving into Spider-Man 2 blindly with not a sliver of information of what’ll take place next in the story.

Anyhow, on the bright side of things, those who luckily managed to stay away from all these spoilers (excluding me, sadly) are in for one thrilling joyride with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Everything from the combat to the graphical capability of the forthcoming superhero game looks outright fantastic. Even more so, Insomniac will make sure that the ray tracing feature is kept enabled on all graphics modes in the title, so players can experience it just the way the devs have intended.

There’s no mode of this game that has the ray tracing turned off, no need for it. We’ve really figured out how to deliver what we feel like is the right Spider-Man visuals and we want to make sure every player is seeing that,” said Mike Fitzgerald, Insomniac’s Director of Core Technology, in an interview.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will make landfall on October 20, 2023, for the PlayStation 5 exclusively, with no early access period nor availability for the PlayStation 4. The game traces its initial announcement back at the 2021 PlayStation Showcase, followed by its first-ever gameplay reveal during this year’s PS Showcase. Finally, the title got an official release date at the Summer Game Fest that happened back in June.

Since there are multiple purchasable variants of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, it can get rather confusing to decide which one you should get. Here’s our guide on all Spider-Man 2 editions that walks you through each available version of the title, allowing you to come to a firm buying conclusion. Oh, and here’s a non-spoiler rundown of the majority of new features of the title, so you know what to expect.
