Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s New Patch Resolves The Cuban Flag Misstep

The issue was first reported about 5 days ago.

Story Highlights

  • Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is one of the biggest releases of 2023, launching for the PS5 exclusively.
  • Eagle-eyed players reported earlier that Miles has the wrong country flag in his home.
  • Insomniac, after acknowledging the issue, has now made the changes required in a new update.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is flat-out brilliant, with Insomniac outdoing itself yet again with this next-gen video game adaptation release of one of the world’s most likable superheroes. As the developer continues to support its new venture post-launch, a new patch for the open-world action-adventure has been rolled out, titled v1.001.003. The update has brought a fix to a highly criticized error that was spotted as of late.

The latest update finally takes out the flag of Cuba spotted inside Miles’ home and replaces it with the colors of Puerto Rico—the motherland of Rio Morales, the second Spider-Man’s mom. Spotting the error for the first time, many took to social media to make their complaints in a fit of rage, iterating how this misstep was utterly disrespectful from the side of Insomniac, although, of course, it wasn’t intentional.

Following the virality of these posts across different social media platforms, including Reddit, James Stevenson, Insomniac Games’ Community and Marketing Director, stepped up to confirm that the team is working on a fix for the issue. Now, that fix is finally here, as the Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 update v1.001.003 not only sports the expected resolution but irons out other bugs in the game as well.

Here are the full patch notes that the developer has released in the wake of the recent patch:

  • Addressed an issue where an incorrect flag was displayed
  • Addressed an issue where models would not load properly after long play sessions
  • Addressed an issue where The Amazing 2 Suit’s Spider logo appeared too bright
  • Improved stability

In other news, the flag mix-up inside Miles’ house wasn’t the only thing that fans have spotted so far while gliding across New York City in the new sequel. Insomniac has paid homage to a deceased member of the developing team, Craig Goodman, in the title with a specialized mural of the person, decorated with flowers and a Spider-Man figure, as one player on Reddit noticed.

In terms of doing well in sales, Spider-Man 2 has been nothing but a commercial success so far, selling 2.5 million copies in just a single day after its release. Prior to that, it was reported that the title has become the highest-rated Spider-Man 2 game of all time, nabbing that “Must-Play” Metacritic label and leaving its predecessors in the dust. Insomniac is out here setting the bar too high for future PlayStation exclusives.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was released on the PlayStation 5 exclusively on October 20, 2023. eXputer gave the sequel a 4/5, praising its terrific visuals, depth of gameplay, and a wide array of accessibility features.
