Starfield To Have Fewest Bugs Of Any Bethesda Release, Says Xbox Game Studios Head

The space-faring action RPG is shaping up to be a stupefying experience.

Story Highlights

  • Starfield will reportedly have the fewest bugs of any Bethesda release so far, as confirmed by Xbox Game Studios head Matt Booty while speaking to Giant Bomb.
  • Many devs alongside Todd Howard are internally testing the game. It is in a great state currently, with the ability to break many milestones if it were to launch today in its current version.
  • Starfield will launch on Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, and PC on September 10, 2023; it has already become the top-seller on Steam in just a day.

Xbox Game Studios head Matt Booty spoke to Giant Bomb in the latest episode of the podcast, expressing his thoughts about Starfield’s current development. As per Matt, the game will launch with the fewest amount of bugs than any other Bethesda title. Many devs working with Todd Howard are busy internally playing the game, testing all the nooks and crannies to create a highly smooth space-faring action RPG.

We have an awful lot of people internally playing Starfield, working with Todd and the team. I see bug counts and just by the numbers if it shipped today, Starfield would already have the fewest bugs of any Bethesda game ever shipped,” says Matt Booty.

Starfield reportedly had a much earlier planned release date, but things took a steep turn after Microsoft acquired Bethesda. Phil Spencer wanted to give Bethesda as much time as required to turn the entry into a highly cherishable venture. Thus, the game saw two significant delays. The CEO also tuned into the podcast to share his remarks regarding the venerating title and its current state.

We have every QA person in our entire company playing Starfield right now, looking at bug counts, looking at the quality of where we are. The nice thing about what we showed today from my perspective is that was the game. We’ve been playing the game for quite a while and that’s the game,” says Phil.

Both Phil Spencer and Xbox Game Studios head Matt Booty seem to confirm that Starfield would break milestones even if it were to come out in its current form today. The title has reportedly already achieved a major triumph, becoming the top-selling game on Steam in just under a day.

Bethesda has poured a lot of love and dedication towards Starfield, turning it into a passion project brewing for over 25 years. The team is lauded for launching great titles with meritorious scores over its long history, but the performance issues and bugs have often lingered in the final releases. Some fans were worried about the new RPG meeting the same fate, but Xbox Game Studios’ head has finally reassured the community.
