Starfield Has Become The Top-Selling Game On Steam In Under A Day

The Bethesda RPG has surpassed Street Fighter 6 and Cyberpunk 2077 to rule the platform hours after going live.

Story Highlights

  • Starfield has gone to the top of the Steam paid top sellers chart, just under a day after it went online on the platform.
  • The Bethesda RPG has surpassed games like Cyberpunk 2077 and Street Fighter 6 to achieve this goal.
  • Only Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, which is a free-to-play game, is above Starfield in the overall ranking.

Hours after its pre-orders went online, Starfield has become the highest-selling paid game on Steam globally in the overall rankings. Bethesda’s upcoming RPG has already overtaken Cyberpunk 2077 and Street Fighter 6 to occupy this space in the platform’s top 100 best-selling games ranking. Hence, all signs are pointing to the Xbox console exclusive doing big numbers when it comes out.

Only Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, which is a free-to-play title, stands above Starfield in the definitive list which also contains free games. Considering how popular the game is on Steam and its free nature, this is no surprise and the pre-orders of the upcoming RPG are performing really well. It is ahead of Cyberpunk 2077 right now, which is 50% off, and got a big push due to the announcement of its breathtaking new expansion.

Starfield is also beating another very popular recent game in the form of Street Fighter 6, which is currently at No.5. The role-playing game is also above Valve’s own Steam Deck and other upcoming titles like Payday 3. When you factor in how it’s also beating out popular first-person shooting titles like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Pubg this performance seems even more impressive

With months still remaining in its official release, the pre-orders are only going to increase as the hype grows. June 11’s starfield direct has done a pretty good job of exciting people for the upcoming RPG. The show gave us an in-depth look at probably the most ambitious and biggest project Xbox has ever taken under its wing. It gave us details about the planets, adoring NPCs, and the immensely detailed character creation model.

Fans were already hyped for the game after seeing its old build from Bethesda last year. But the upgraded visuals, the comprehensive shipbuilder, and the gameplay deep dive with Todd Howard have only increased the anticipation for the title. The role-playing game’s director also teased the first DLC during the showcase. Hence, Starfield will get plenty of post-launch content and you don’t have to worry about the game dying too soon.

With Microsoft promoting the Bethesda RPG with exclusive controllers and a beautiful Collectors Edition, it’s certainly shaping up to be one of 2023’s biggest games. Even though the game is locked at 30 FPS on both Xbox consoles, it looks like this aspect hasn’t decreased the excitement for Starfield. Obviously, only time will tell how the game performs on PC and Xbox when it eventually comes out.

Starfield will launch on Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, and PC on September 10, 2023.
